It's not about voter suppression at all. Most countries, including N.Ireland do this and they typically have higher turnouts.
Saying it's "all about voter suppression" is, essentially, to use the now popular phrase, a conspiracy theory, that is entirely unproved.
It's true that arrests etc for electoral fraud are very low, but it's also true that we would have no idea about it. I think postal voting (which this won't change) is open to fraud. I'm also a poll clerk like Swiss Peter, and it's not entirely uncommon for people to come in and be told that they've already voted. Doesn't happen much, but it does happen, and it's hard to know how someone could forget that in the space of a day
