I don't think AI is the technology you need for automating train driving - the amount of thinking you need to do is pretty small - I guess the challenge lies in having accurate and reliable sensoring with system redundancy

      Driverless trains already exist.

Yes they'll all be driverless during the strikes

London's DLR is about 40 years old and is driverless.

If you want an example from a much bigger and more complicated network, several of Paris' Metro lines are automated and have been since 2012.

I have listened to a few podcasts with Mo Gawdat (Former Chief of Google X)
            He’s a massively inspirational character.

I highly recommend watching or listening to him.

If you can’t stomach watching Piers Morgan interview him check out some of his other interviews.

They will be using telephones and computer systems next, you know.

I had a read through this.

It seems as though we are in an exponential curve with AI growth and if this guy is correct, we will start seeing real world outcomes very soon.

He could be wrong, he could be right.

There is currently a doubling function of every six months and predictions are that we see AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) next year and ASI (Artificial Super Intelligence) within two years. ASI is essentially a computer model that is smarter than all of humanity throughout history, combined.

Mrinank Sharma, who led the safeguards research team at Anthropic, shared his resignation letter on X, which quickly garnered nearly 1 million views.

Yeah, as I say I find it terrifying. And I know big technological changes always are; industrial revolution, media, phones, electricity, internet, whatever it may be, they do profoundly change society. It does feel like they were "of us and for us" though. I don't get that feeling at the moment, it feels really uncertain and I can't say I'm positive about it

There is a great podcast that Stephen Fry presented a couple of years before Covid called Great Leap Years.
He went into detail about pivotal inventions and the impact they had on society, like the printing press etc.

The last episode was about exponential computing and it sounded quite ominous then.

It’s a great podcast and I couldn’t recommend it highly enough.
