It was certainly exaggerated to frighten the public into silly rules, they were necessary until the vaccine perhaps, after that they should have been reduced much more quickly, but as you suggest it's easy to say that now in hindsight.

It certainly wasn't exaggerated and there were no silly rules. When faced with a life or death crisis unfortunately inconveniences will occur.

if you look over a pretty short time period you can make it seem as though the UK economy is outperforming the major EU nations, but it isn't the case.
while all nations have taken a hit from COVID, and Ukraine, the UK has been affected more than comparative EU countries, over a short time period they have recovered more than some of the EU nations because they fell a lot more.

if you look at the whole picture since Brexit then we certainly aren't outperforming the other major EU nations

The UK economy is growing as a slower rate than it was before the covid crisis

The Eurozone economy is indeed growing and is set to continue growing at a faster rate than ours
