Re: Epstein.
I find him quite aggressive, he's a bit like a right-wing Sludge.
He's doing an absolutely fantastic job on this though and it's one of those things that is seeing real growth online whilst the media ignore it. His Facebook following has soared in the last few weeks and he's getting millions of views.

Re: Epstein.
I read that Andrew has been arrested today under the suspicion of misconduct in public office, maybe he'll start sweating now!! although i'd be shocked if this was anything than an optics excersize with a "we have found no evidence of whatever he's been pulled for".

If you want to know a country and it's people you have to live there for a number of years, total immersion, and then you will realise how idiotic tourists are.Originally posted by Taunton Blue Genie View PostIt's not the ticking off of countries that counts but the education that we learn from visiting them, boning up on their history and culture and interacting with ordinary people (who are usually so very helpful and kind and make it so much easier to navigate geographically and culturally).
I have no interest in cruises, plush hotels and limos. I like to use local transport, local shops and have serendipitous conversations with people. I also get a kick from getting around on a tight budget when I don't really need to. I just feel that the experience is more genuine somehow.

Seems like you enjoy a challenge, something I did in my younger days or should I say before the kids came along….Originally posted by Taunton Blue Genie View PostIt's not the ticking off of countries that counts but the education that we learn from visiting them, boning up on their history and culture and interacting with ordinary people (who are usually so very helpful and kind and make it so much easier to navigate geographically and culturally).

The world is a most fascinating place and there's so much to learn about the spectrum of humanity that share it - and I feel obliged to educate myself thus (he says pompously and pretentiously) before I shed my mortal coil.
By the way, it's now dark here in the casbah area and I'm quaffing a bottle of Algerian red wine ( very difficult to source) whilst listening to the call to prayer through the open shutter door.
I often visit countries that hold no fascination for me and without any expectations - but I always leave with a feeling of gratitude, if that makes sense.
I always like to hear about the challenges, the dramas etc…possibly no fun at the time but make first such good stories after.
Been held up or robbed anywhere? Injured? I managed all three in Mexico some 30 years ago…..

I've never had a problem whilst travelling abroad but I was attacked in London en route to Germany, my first ever trip abroad.Originally posted by goats View PostSeems like you enjoy a challenge, something I did in my younger days or should I say before the kids came along….

I was attacked by two assailants, one of whom smashed a bottle and thrust it at me a number of times. My left hand took most of the punishment as I put it to my face where the bottle was aimed at. A vein and three tendons were severed, part of one knuckle seemed to have been removed and I had glass cuts in my head, right hand and chin, all of which required stitches. The vein pumped out blood in projectile fashion and but I managed to get help before I passed out. I was in hospital that I may not have made it had I simply fallen unconcious in the lane I was ushered into,
I spent three days in Greenwich hospital, ignored the medical advice to return home and hitch-hiked on to Germany, arm in a sling and with a beaten up face. A German couple gave me a lift from there all the way to my brother's town in Germany and where I spent a month recuperating.
I made friendships there which I have kept up for 50 years (and lived there for a while too). The hospitality I received had a profound influence on me and started my fascination for other countries and travel in general.

It’s quite apt you’ve never encountered too much bother abroad just in the uk. Talking of Germany I’m quite keen to go, just been to Berlin which doesn’t really count and I have German ancestry….

Re: Epstein.
Try an easyJet flight from Bristol to Munich. (I'll be flying that route myself at the end of next week).Originally posted by goats View PostI think I’ve asked you this before TBG as I’ve definitely heard that start off tale before, my memory is so fkin bad.

What an interesting story. Things like that certainly stay with people. Credit to you for not letting you get bitter or shy away from adventures. That's the best way 👍Originally posted by Taunton Blue Genie View PostI've never had a problem whilst travelling abroad but I was attacked in London en route to Germany, my first ever trip abroad.

Re: Epstein.
TBG could turn a post mourning the death of a loved one into a mini-novel about his latest holiday! Most people go away to see the sights and have some fun, while others use the experience to publish a CCMB travel blogOriginally posted by severncity View PostWhat has any of the above got to do with Epstein?
