Our beloved club and the CCS are in the Cardiff West constituency. Kevin Brennan, the Labour incumbent, has retired and Keir Starmer has parachuted his best mate into the seat as Labour's candidate.
Alex Barros-Curtis is Labour's Executive Director of Legal Affairs and the man who ran Starmer's successful leadership campaign. He is also the man who purged Labour of Corbyn, Corbynites and 'anti-semites'.
Prior to last week there is no evidence that Alex had ever visited Cardiff or had any interest in Wales, despite being raised in Prestatyn. His imposition as the candidate has upset many local Labour activists, members and voters. Canvassing conversations have shocked Team Barros-Curtis as very few Cardiff West residents have expressed any enthusiasm for voting for him.
Maybe it's the accusations of hacking, or the fact that A B-C has blown millions on failed legal action against Corbynites that are holding him back. Or maybe his zionist credentials are a sticking point. Gething's travails can't be helping and Drakeford, the Cardiff West Senedd Member, is more unpopular now than he's ever been.
Oh and the 20mph debacle and Cardiff Council's own poorly-executed household recycling changes won't be helping either.
My question to those who live in Cardiff West is: Will you be voting for Starmer's right-hand man, who has no links to Cardiff and if elected will spend minimal time in the constituency, or will you be voting for someone who actually lives in Cardiff West?
