Trump is a lying braggart and insurrectionist. How he is not in jail for January 6 and squirreling away classified documents, I have no idea. He will set the mob loose (literally). But last night he dialed it down, was lucid and seemed calmer and even reasoned if you didn't realize he was just lying all the time. I fear for democracy and the free world if he is elected.
Biden has done a half decent job - the economy is strong, he's tried his best at foreign policy. But last night he was lost. He seemed nervous, he looked almost on the verge of sleep at times and he was incoherent. His performance was terrible. He looked like a very aged relative agitatedly rambling in his favourite comfortable chair at Christmas (Thanksgiving here).
Newsom was chosen over two years ago, maybe even longer.
If that’s true and there are all these powers behind the throne really running things, why go through all of the rigmarole of having Biden run in the first place - what does anyone gain from it?
I’m very anti Trump and would have voted for Biden with few concerns in 2020, but I couldn’t vote for him this time. I always assumed he would only serve four years and have had concerns about him this time around throughout the last year or so - he seems to have got worse recently, but not as bad as he was with that Medicare answer last night.
Got to say Trump was clever in the way he seemed to notice that Biden was tanking badly and so, in essence, just let him get on with it rather than wade in against him. That said, Trump talked his usual bollox when it was his turn and some of the things I’ve seen from him in the last month or two makes it look to me as if he’s suffered like Biden did last night - once cognitive decline sets in, it’s hardly going to go away in a few days like a cold does.

Are you saying it will be a Trump v Newsom election in 2024?
If it has all been pre-planned 'they' have made a dogs breakfast of putting 'their' candidate up against Trump. WEF fail?
Or that Newsom is a good bet to be the Democratic candidate in 2028?
In which case you are just parroting what half the US commentariat have been saying for years.
Or maybe it was Biden who was chosen and there is no Swiss Baldrick with a cunning plan - and you are just giving us your latest dose of Gluey bollux? I wonder....
I feel like Biden and the Democrats choosing to nominate him again will go down as one of the great mistakes of American politics.
Sure, it will swing back in four or eight years and I don't buy the argument that Trump is dangerous or anything, but from a Democratic party perspective, and from his personal perspective what the hell were they thinking?
I've always been a bit back and forth with US politics and would likely be a floating voter if I lived there, but there is literally zero chance I would vote for Biden. He clearly i(and sadly) is unfit.
Seems that most senior Democrats are rallying behind him. Will be interesting to see if polling changes in the coming days.
One interesting outcome may be a more moderate Trump. If suddenly lots of potential centrist voters come on the scene he will want to sweep them up too. I think we saw that with his Roe v Wade answers of late, where he is saying it's gone to the states to determine and how that is what the US traditionally does etc and that is a pretty sound argument whether you agree with it or not

Timing is everything. It's too late to primary, but just in time to switcheroo.

I see you ignored my question about the need for a switcheroo in the first place - why did the elite who really runeverything want to involve a 81 year old Biden in their machinations, if he stands down in the next month, how has him dimishing the Democrats’ chances of a win suit the master plan?

Trouble is, anyone who saw the worst of Biden's debate performance cannot just unremember it. As with the large majority of chronic illnesses and/or conditions, you have good days and bad days and the man who looked so all at sea at 81 wasn't as bad as that at 80, yet he's asking that the people of the USA put their trust in him to do what many still see as the most impeortant job in the world until he's 85 or 86.

ECONOMICS
Are you just staring at GEE-DEE-PEE and the stock market NasDaq prices, Keynesian-geek? Or just reading the BBC and Guardian referring to GEE-DEE-PEE?
Go and look at what real people are feeling in the US, and some market / economic internals that tell you what is going on under the hood, like
a real economist with thorough education, or a good city trader, would look at. Real economics.
Such as the cost of living which is hurting. Look at debt interest rates, and the debt service
ratio-to-income that ia hurting many people as a result. Look at auto loan defaults. Commercial Real estate crisis in California and New York states. Look at housing problems. Looked the fall in permanent private employment statistics such as layoffs and job openings. Student defaults. Credit card default. 60 mid range range banks with off the book losses, worse than the GFC (Source: May, FDIC) and anticipated to be bailed out? Cyclical sector downturns? And of course the king-sized twin deficits now blowing up US debts due to his Green-obsession. It is all deadly.
Clearly you don’t know where to look, your training in economics is third rate, you’re ignoring it for politics, or as I suspect you are not what you say you are. Quoting “3% inflation” and “GEE-DEE-PEE” is only stuff that academics, political people and wonks care about. This isn’t the language that people or voters care about. It is bubble-talk and you’re one of them.
So connect the dots homie and do your homework. Because opinion polls have been saying for months that the voters are not feeling anything on the economy. It it is because the data points I point out above are what is really happening and what people are really feeling. The only people that ever believed that this old crooner was suitable for the next four years, or even some myth of the economy doing well, are the bearded academics and the Democrat political bubble that props the old codger up.
Aside from economics optics are everything. People have said for 1-2 years now that Biden was senile or incapable. It was branded “Right Wing” or “Conspiracy Theorist” which is laughable. Well no more, as the chickens are now coming home to roost as the truth bubbles to the surface in plain sight for all to see. It was just common sense and a simple eyball check. The debate has smacked a few ignorant people square the face and brought reality home. Even the FT admitted yesterday they got it wrong. A generous serving of humble pie and admission that the attempt by media to manipulate opinion has blown up - just like your credibility.
FOREIGN POLICY
Under Biden, Iran, China and Russia have ran riot in encircling the West in Ukraine, Middle East and increasingly Taiwan. None of this happened Trump. Russia and China were not challenging militarily and Iran brought to his knees. Despite Trump appearing unhinged, none ran amok
under him because he was feared. Nobody fears Biden. He is a wimp. And if there is one thing we know in life, it takes a bully to beat a bully. Bullies run all over wimps, and that is why Xi, Putin and the Ayatollah of Iran have ran rings around Biden.
So let’s recap on four things I have called right, and you have called wrong:
1. Economic arguments on GEE-DEE-PEE don’t sway voters. Get real and look at real economic data that affects real people and tells us what is going on. I have dropped sufficient hints. Now follow up, good boy, and mark it down as education, personal growth” or a reality check.
2. Biden is shocking on foreign policy. The age of peace has gone. The age of the strongman has returned. Europe and the US need strongmen to respond. Hippies will not beat military generals. Wimps will not beat bullies.
3. Optics count more than policy detail. Biden is senile, is too old, and can’t remember things to debate. Trump is an idiot but appears strong, a good communicator, is combative, and knows what makes people tick (even if his empathy is false). He can tell (untruthful) stories which is powerful. He therefore lands better with the public eye and if allowed to run will win. That’s politics. It is game of optics and persuasion, or a game relative to your opponeny, not your ideal world based on truth, fact nor even competence.
4. Trump’s court case will not change the polls. Everyone thought it was “the end”. I said it wasn’t. I’m right. You’re wrong. Handle it like a man.
If Democrats are to return it is the like of Tulsi Gabbard that they need. Newsom, Harris, Whitmer and Kennedy will not cut the mustard. The search for a Democrat with a pair of bollocks
continues. And the idea thay AzCity knows what
is going on is a busted flush. You don’t like my tone? First, check your own.

KS in the house y’all: THE VOICE OF REASON, TEACHER OF TRUTH
I see the New York Times has called for Biden to step down. It's the American paper of record and a liberal mouthpiece, something like the Guardian and Times combined and quite a significant call.
I would say it's 50/50 that he ends up standing at the moment
