  • Planning laws being ignored, why do you think that will be?

Will it be to build lots of shiny new houses for your kids?

But if it was that why would they need to ignore planning?

That will be the next one, put whatever they want wherever they want it!

It's a thin line I guess between smugly thinking you are winding up "lefties" and looking like you are having some kind of episode.

I don't know what the most likely conclusion is but you don't seem to be very good at the former.

:hehe: Just pointing out how a statement like reform of planning can be made to look positive when that might not be the case.

Early days lets review what happens in five years, I think this could be a huge problem for a lot of people, but time will tell.

It hasn’t taken them long has it. In radio4 this morning telling anyone that wanted to listen, planning laws in grey field sites will be largely ignored and that it’s spend spend spend, can’t believe that have reverted to type so soon.

You may be adequately housed but there is a housing crisis you know. Just because it doesn’t affect you or your family doesn’t mean it doesn’t need addressing.

                  Absolutely

We are going to have to build as many houses as we can , where we can

                  There is not enough supply

It's not really open to debate apart from some environmental concerns

Re: Planning laws being ignored, why do you think that will be?

This is a very very key issue, and it is a real source of conflict for the government and councils, metro mayor's, councillors etc

Essentially we need more housing. I don't think anyone disputes that. Fundamentally however it is very hard for this to be achieved without serious conflict with environmental legislation as that is what creates a lot of delays and costs. People can argue otherwise, but it does.

I think Labour are absolutely 100% right to prioritise house building (by which we mean dwellings really, as flats arguably more important) but it is going to be incredibly hard.

To be honest, I don't think it will be achieved without some serious legislation that will be considered by many to be pretty regressive and "anti-green".

It's needed though. Alongside lower immigration it's the only way we can restore some sanity to the housing market and give younger people the hope of home ownership that I suspect many reading this took and take for granted.

So much new development going on to the nw and ne of cardiff, 30000 new homes was it? Plenty for everyone surely, a population of near 500,000 is plenty for this city, the transport and roads are so poor it couldn’t take much more.

Be interesting to see how many the whinging twats in Pembrokeshire build now, moaning for years there isn’t enough despite the fact it’s 97% farmland and barely anyone young actually wants to live there anyway as there is no work. Their outstanding solution being to treble council tax instead for second home owners who have decided to sell up and almost collapse the market there…..

Looks like the knuckle dragging Nimbys will be sorely disappointed.

A super-city will need more than that, so they will have to build upwards.

                              :

Welsh Government set a target of delivering 20,000 new low carbon homes for social rent during this five-year Senedd term, 2021 to 2026. In the first two years, 5,775 homes were delivered towards the target. This figure doesn't just include newly built homes. It’s going to be a mixture of tenures.

Good news for the folk who work in this sector for sure.
