  • Why do the political right dislike the BBC?

It seems to me that those who seem to dislike the Beeb the most are those who I would place on the right of the political spectrum. If the BBC report x then it's leftie nonsense, but if other broadcasters do the same, there's never the same issue.

Would people really prefer those who cover our news and politics to be in the hands of business and billionaires?

Probably yes, as long as the news is saying what they want to hear. It went that way in the US so I can see it happening in the UK.

In my opinion, there are those on both left and right that complain about the BBC. In my eyes, they are doing something right if they're upsetting everyone.

I think that's the general truth of it

Regarding the 'news' I get my radio fix via Times Radio and the internet Al Jazeera. Interestingly met some Australians in North Spain in June and they say they rely on Al Jazeera for serious news items. Which brings me to the BBC. Left or right, I don't know but I ocassionally catch up with the BBC News at 6pm or 10pm. The 1st observation is how juvenile and trivial it appears to everything else. It also seems to devote a significant portion of the News programmes to climate matters with trendy 50yr olds in shirt and jeans presenting the latest devastating climate news.

Truth is you need to expose yourself to multiple sources of opposing news, and note who said what over time. There is also the new phenonium of citizen journalists, which is basically anybody with an internet connection.

The corbynistas were as vitriolic towards the BBC as the reform lot are now. As others have said, and as the old saying goes 'the fact that they're p*ssing both sides off equally shows they're doing something right.

Look at the stick Laura K gets from many on the left. The one big difference with the right wing BBC moaning I suppose is that they also tend to seek to tie it into defunding the BBC

I am a left of centre voter and I hate idiots like corbyn

Laura K is a conservative from conservative voting stock

That being said I think she's very straight when it comes to her Sunday show

Gary Lineker is probably partly to blame, a champaign socialist spouting rubbish all the time while taking a fortune from the BBC.

I think there is a left basis on there, but don't mind that much, I just don't like paying for it when so many others don't.

What you really mean is the BBC seeks to be impartial and the Right don’t like that as they have the monopoly of the press.
This ‘champagne socialist’ label you freely give out? Why does someone who wants a fair society have to be down to their last penny? Credit to the likes of Lineker who have earned a lot of money but are true to their beliefs on what sort of country they want to see.

I have some skin in the game on this and from my experience. The bbc have policies in place that usually make them impartial and inclusive. However as a work force - the mindset of the large majority is labour / lib dem. This is fine as everyone is entitled to an opinion - what isnt fine is when it leaks out into a broadcast or an opinion peace without right to reply or balance. A good friend of mine admits he never talks politics in work at the bbc - as it would damage his future aspirations. whereas his work colleague is quite open about her hatred of anyone other than labour. Echo chamber work environment basically and has been like it for some time.
Luckily the beeb is becoming less and less important. The beeb pension is very good though apparently

I am glad the Tories at the BBC have to have tea breaks on their own

I would make them sit outside in the car

But when the director general and his next in command are fully paid up Tories its only fair that we have a bit of balance

Re: Why do the political right dislike the BBC?

I say this as someone who supports the BBC, is proud of it's history and is happy to pay the licence fee.

But they don't always help themselves. I know this goes for all media organisations, and ranking news stories isn't an easy or precise science, but this afternoon they have

A 13 year old girl pleading guilty to using threatening violence as the main story

And an 11 year old girl being stabbed eight times by a random person as the fifth story.

The BBC TV news will likely have these stories in reverse (the main story on the website and the TV are frequently different) which suggests more editorial decisions based not on what is news, but what the audience want.

I dunno, they don't always help themselves.

If one of the royal family broke their legs falling down the stairs it would be front page news

I have no problem at all with the bbc but I really can't stand the right wing in this country

Are you wanting the attack on this young girl in London to be the main news story ?

Would that get you on side ?

Why haven't you told us your politics before?

Do you not think it's slightly odd news values then?
