  • American politics - help please.

It must be that I've become an election nerd, but, since the one in the UK, I've become far more fascinated by the American vote in November than I've ever been before and am currently scouring through You Tube looking for stuff to watch about it.

However, I get the feeling that all that's happening is that I'm, greatly, improving my knowledge of US geography! Given what my politics are, You Tube has tended to direct me to Democrat supporting podcasts and, although some of them are pretty good, I soon tired of most of them because, for them, every day is a disaster for Trump and the Republicans when that clearly isn't the case as he's still up in many of the polls.

I've looked at some Republican backing things, but they're equally as biased and I've seen no end of predictions from Trump supporters as to how it will all end where bad polls for him are just being ignored or branded too unreliable.

So, does anybody have any podcasts or streams they use that are at least fairly neutral in their opinions? At the moment, I think I get more out of things like News Agents USA and the BBC's Americast - they're both generally anti Trump, but they are, at least, fairly even handed in their analysis.

The Rest Is Politics has a USA version with Antony Scaramucci and Katty Kay (a UK journalist). Scaramucci is a lot more likeable than I'd thought he'd be.

Frank Luntz is often on UK TV about it. He's not anti Trump and often cuts through media bias but wouldn't be to everyones taste

Often the best resource is fivethirtyeight.com

Yes, I should have mentioned that (it’s my favourite actually), agree about Scaramucci and I think she is good as well- have you seen this week’s podcast where he talks about the chance of Trump dropping out before November 5? I thought what a load of crap when he first mentioned it, but then believed it was possible once he explained why.

I did hear that and pretty much thought the same. Predictably it boils down to whether Trump thinks a or b will be better for him; I'm not convinced he would put his trust in anyone else to do the job but a month is a long time in this campaign, let alone three.

It's worth googling Allan Lichtman a renowned Professor of Politics in the USA. He's only got one presidential election call wrong in over 40 years. He has a really interesting analytical system which he uses to make his forecasts.

I wish I could point you at something like the BBC that at least attempts to steer a middle path and has decent breadth of coverage but I'm afraid it doesn't exist. The US has tribal politics and tribal "news" coverage.

The suggestions above are good ones. I'd be a little dubious around Mr Lundt - he isn't exactly unbiased.
