Re: Ukraine Into Russia
Whilst it is understandable that Ukraine seek to destroy Russian military bases within Russia itself, I think this mini-invasion of Russian territory (i.e. small and insignificant villages) does not help their cause. Zelensky says they have no intention of capturing Russian territory yet we see Ukrainian troops taking down a Russian flag in one of the border villages inside Russia and putting up a Ukrainian flag ( https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cze5n6w06j3t )
Surely this is excellent propaganda for Putin, helping to bolster his claim that Ukraine is a terrorist state?

Ukraine are looking to claim Russian territory so they have a stronger hand when they eventually get round the table to end the war. there is the possibility of a double envelopment of the Donbask and Luhansk regions. Once the troops are embedded, the Kerch bridge becomes a target, is easily destroyed, and the Russians have their own Stalingrad.

Re: Ukraine Into Russia
I don’t think Zelenskyy plans to stay there, just showing Russians what it’s like to be invaded and terrorised…..I imagine it’s not very nice. I think it’s absolute quality from Ukraine although I do wonder if it’s going to be a suicide mission.Originally posted by Gofer Blue View PostWhilst it is understandable that Ukraine seek to destroy Russian military bases within Russia itself, I think this mini-invasion of Russian territory (i.e. small and insignificant villages) does not help their cause. Re: Ukraine Into Russia
Watch the film Mr Jones it is a true story, you will hate Russia even more .
A Welsh journalist breaks the news in the western media of the famine in Ukraine in the early 1930s.
Our government of the time turned a blind eye.
Based on real events, the dramatic thriller "Gareth Jones" chronicles a British investigative journalist as he travels deep into the Soviet Union to uncover an international conspiracy. His life-or-death journey inspires George Orwell's "Animal Farm".
The director of the film is Agnieszka Holland.
Bravest Welshman ( Barry Lad ) I know of
In 1933, Welsh journalist Gareth Jones (Norton) travels to Ukraine, where he experiences the horrors of a famine.
Everywhere he goes he meets henchmen of the Soviet secret service who are determined to prevent news about the catastrophe from getting out. Stalin's forced collectivisation of agriculture has resulted in misery and ruin-the policy is tantamount to mass murder.

Re: Ukraine Into Russia
It's difficult negotiating with him, Putin has unlimited resources in weapons and army, Ukraine will run out eventually if Trump gets elected and pulls their backing and help.Originally posted by Taunton Blue Genie View PostPutin has now taken chunks out of Ukraine' in 2014 and in this decade. What's to stop him coming back for more whatever pans out in the immediate future? The concept of a 'deal' may be rather fanciful.
Horrible as it is at one point, I can see a negotiation where Ukraine has to give up more of the Country, I could be wrong but I can't see it going any other way.
How do you think it can end differently?

The most realistic hope is perhaps that Russia digs in, draws a line on the map and decides not to cross it in the short term and for their own reasons (heavy losses in manpower and equipment) whilst Ukraine reluctantly, and perhaps under international pressure, does the same but whilst still asserting on the international stage that the invavded areas are still Ukranian territory. It may be a stretch to consider such an impasse as 'negotiation' and what value would any 'agreement' have if Russia decides to return for yet more Ukranian territory when they choose?
Who even knows what will happen in Russia post-Putin?
I'm all ears.

Re: Ukraine Into Russia
Putin definitively does not have "unlimited" troops and weapons. I think you'll also find the weapons Ukraine is supplied with are "somewhat" superior.Originally posted by North Cardiff Blue View PostIt's difficult negotiating with him, Putin has unlimited resources in weapons and army, Ukraine will run out eventually if Trump gets elected and pulls their backing and help.
