The only issue I have with changing iht is yet again we are having a conversation about 'raising taxes on the richest' and excluding the actual rich people, whose affairs are organised in a way to avoid paying iht. Similar to any conversations about income tax, NI etc.
I agree about the money flow, but the very wealthy will just put it into trusts and pay nothing, really just punishing the middle men again, as they always do….

I think you will find that group are getting more conscious of it during these slightly difficult times, no cheap mortgages, bills through the roof, cars seem to have doubled in price, as is insurance now….pubs, football, nights out…..crazy what it costs these days.

I have no idea if or how that is policed - and as Eric says, the very rich play outside the rules- but the rules are there.
It’s 3k….also, it’s at £325,000 but it gets passed on from one parent to the other so becomes £700,000, it might have gone up a bit more I’m not sure. I guess most houses in the London area are over this anyway

A lot of the people moaning about getting hit for inheritance tax are talking rubbish

If someone bought a house for 15 grand in the mid seventies and it's now worth 350 grand then it's the greed of the market that's done all the work to increase its value

What " hard work , pay my taxes , etc etc " is involved her ?

It's not a tax on how hard someone's worked ....a road sweeper works as hard as a bank manager ....its a tax mostly on a property and the value is nothing to do with paying tax or working hard
