who thinks that rather than let 1700 prisoners out early in England and Wales, build more prisons? It’s not as though they didn’t see this problem coming.
The government could just pretend that Russia has invaded another country, and use the dough they’d send to help, on building the new prisons.
More jobs created in the construction industry, more prison staff jobs created and the scrotes, thieves, villains and dregs of life, see out their full jail terms.
    Just a thought.

The conservatives have faffed up the provision of new provisions and have ignored it for years

I think it's a good idea to release people early , within reason

The idiots throwing stones and missiles at the recent riots ......give em a year they serve 4 months.....not ideal but saves money and most will not do it again

    Rapists , sex offenders.......different thing

Planning permission was down to local councils so (apparently) some proposed new prisons didn't get built. Labour are saying they'll override the local authorities to ensure they do.
Until capacity increases or sentencing guidelines change (that won't be popular), then more prisoners can expect to be released after serving 40, not 50% of their sentence.
