Where does it stop? Will the Welsh Government end up thinking that casualty figures are still too high and reduce speed limits further?

Man with a flag will put all this nonsense to bed . No one will ever get killed on our roads .
Does allowing a 5 year old play on a busy main road leaves questions of her nearest and dearest

If the driver was allowed to do 30mph, he would have missed her because he’d already gone past her

this argument is just as weak as the last time you posted it, or the time before

It's only weak to you as it backs you into a corner to give an answer that you don't want to give. I think it is a valid question. How far are they prepared to go towards greater road safety? If you'd have said 20 years ago that the default speed limit would drop to 20mph, no-one would have believed you. What's next? 5mph limits so everyone can use the road to do whatever they want?

                        I doubt that's next.

it's just a straw man argument. if I were to say to you: "oh so you want to increase the speed to 30 in residential areas to save a bit of time when driving, well where will that stop, will you think that's still to slow and have people driving at 70 through housing estates to save a few seconds, no matter how many people die in the process?"
I don't think you'd be impressed with that line of logic would you?

ultimately why shouldn't we revise the speed limits based on the evidence from many countries that have done the same to save some lives for an absolute minimal level of inconvenience? it's far more sensible than just leaving them at the same level they were set 100 years ago when there was a tiny number of vehicles on the road because a bunch of people don't like change.

It's an incredibly weak teenage level argument. Like I pointed out to you before, it's like making a fuss asking if everybody will be forced to eventually wear crash helmets because the seatbelt law came in

I've always liked this 20mph thing as it seems to trigger all the right people.

FAO: Eric, knowing your love of statistics...

Tory leadership hopeful... In just 3 months the 20mph change saw: Total number of casualties down 26%. Number killed/seriously injured fall 23% . Those killed fall 55% . Slight injuries down 27%. Other benefits appear to include delays in meeting James Cleverly.
