Over the years we've had quite the variety on here haven't we?

I find it an interesting topic, and it can be intellectually stimulating to challenge why what you hold to be true is so.
And of course it is largely harmless on here as none of us have a large reach unlike for example Alex Jones re: Sandy Hook.

We've had people convinced that Bill Gates is inserting chips into peoples bodies - even convincing themselves that they had a bluetooth addresss somehow emanating from their person, from self assembling nanobots.

Other billionaires like George Soros viewed with a huge level of suspicion on anything that he's involved with.

We've had powerful politicians linked with paedophile rings in the basement of pizza establishments that have no basements.

We've had people claiming they know the exact date that the earth's poles will flip, causing widespread destruction - when even the foremost scientists in this area have no idea whatsoever when that is likely to happen.

At this point we've had so many weird and wonderful theories that nothing is a surprise any more.

Except there is something surprising by omission.

Take Elon Musk for example - the richest man in the world.
Literally putting computer chips into peoples brains.
Buying a huge social media outlet (with help from Gulf oil states) and openly using it to help get a president elected who has questionable links to actual sex traffickers like Epstein. While simultaneously turning the social media outlet into an open sewer of racism and prejudice.

Where are the theories on these guys? are they too easy, not enough mental gymnastics required?
Surely at least some of the curious and free thinkers on here might postulate something. But yet there isn't anything I'm aware of.
Or is it that most conspiracy theories are by there nature implicitly politically motivated?

My prediction for this thread is that at some point WalesBales says something cryptic in an attempt to look knowledgable then doesn't any answer any questions about it because he's scared of looking silly even though that ship has long sailed

It's odd that all conspiracy theorists appear to be right wing. It's highly unusual to find left wing conspiracy theorists. I genuinely find it intriguing. This is a fascinating psychological phenomenon.

There was a tv show I'm half remembering that looked into a group of conspiracy theorists from different backgrounds, and found the largest common factor (but not universal) was that their life hadn't panned out the way they thought it would in some way, so they were looking for reasons to blame other than blaming themselves.

Which on a surface level does seem to correlate with some aspects of the right -blaming immigrants etc for things, but it shouldn't necessarily follow should it?

You're not the first person to notice that Musk gets a free pass, but that's because he's a cool guy helping humanity apparently...

Imagine the reaction on here if this was Evil Bill Gates and not King Elon.

The first human received an implant from @Neuralink yesterday and

Re: Conspiracy theories

Interesting topic and not only are conspiracy theories part of the culture wars nowadays but so too is labelling your opponent (fairly or unfairly) as a conspiracy theorist also part of it.

I'm not sure where it begins and ends. Having an alternative view is perfectly acceptable, so too is being sceptical of power and open to challenging narratives. There are certainly things we don't all know about. Anyone who has any friends in the military will tell you that.

As for being political, I don't think most are. The classic perhaps is the moon landings one. That's apolitical. The one about Diana being killed by the British state cos she may have had a Muslim baby...that didn't fit clearly on the party political spectrum either.

Some of the more prominent (and frankly sick) ones have come from Alex Jones, but the left does this too. Corbyns brother is absolutely one. Owen Jones dabbles, a lot of the whole Zionist world power stuff is now also more like to come from the left than right, or at least equally so. "The US did 9/11 to itself to excuse middle eastern wars". That comes mainly from the left too.

Others such as "the Tories want to privatise the NHS" are commonly shared on the left, but it absolutely is a conspiracy theory. Or is it? Again, where does it begin and end? Most of things things can point to some evidence.

I guess this is where th culture war stuff comes in. People see conspiracy theories as being from "the other side" and dismiss ones they believe in as legitimate.

As for Musk, he is heavily criticised and admired. I think because he is quite vocal on free speech, he doesn't attract the attention. He doesn't give off the impression of trying to hide stuff. But then maybe he is the one to watch the most?! But then, isn't that a bit of a conspiracy theory in itself? 🤔

Re: Conspiracy theories

Of course conspiracy theorists are politically right wing

It stands out like a sore thumb

People who talk about trump being a victim 🙄 and of there being a two tier justice system in the UK

Absolute clowns 🤡

It shouldn't.....but it feckin does

People spending hours on Google, "researching " , trying to tell a few people on an Internet forum that covid was all fake and all the powerful people are part of the game

But they then go on to admit their admiration of absolute crazies like trump , Johnson, Musk etc

Who just happen to be right wing , like them

Some nutcase in my social circle is " convinced " 911 was an inside job by the Americans

These people are politically right wing ....even if they may have once been liberal thinkers .....but they have followed the golden rule of becoming more and more right leaning as they get older

It's very odd

That rules out Gluey then.

I’d agree that most conspiracy theories that involve politics are right wing based, but there’s one doing the rounds about Vance taking over soon after the inauguration if Trump wins as he’s the representative of a bunch of billionaires, including Musk, - Trump’s cognitive decline will be used as the reason for the change of President.

If that happens then it won't be straight away, more likely after two years.

If a VP takes over in the first two years, it counts as a term. After that, it doesn't, so Vance could do 2+4+4 years, rather than at best 4+4. And that's assuming they'd keep the constitution in place.

Yet again you ruin a decent thread , just because someone questions decisions from known liars in government doesn’t make you right wing , and at the same time doesn’t make you left wing either if you happily accept what you are fed through paid media propaganda.

As I’ve said before shhhhh this is an adult conversation and you don’t need to say anything.

It’s was fairly intelligent and balanced discussion until you piped up.

Now crack with your day time television people need to do adult things and work.
