Is your problem with her comments on the photo allegedly at the centre of the row due purely to the fact that she misidentified Imran Khan supporters as Hamas followers (which I have already agreed was a crass mistake).

Would her comments have been acceptable to you if they had actually been Hamas supporters carrying a Hamas flag?

Her comments were not 'crass' they were racist - clearly. That is my problem.

If the photo had been of Hamas supporters with a Hamas flag - given that Hamas is now a proscibed organisation in the UK as well as the US and most of Europe (the military wing was designated as a terrorist organisation in the early 2000s; the whole of the Hamas movement was designated as terrorist a few years ago) anyone identified as such or holding a Hamas flag would have been arrested - and not posing with police from any UK force.

Not that the police - certainly not the Met - are any good at identifying Hamas flags or slogans. They have an unfortunate habit of arresting anyone with brown skin who carried a flag or placard with Arabic writing on it just in case it might be something to do with Hamas.

My other problem with the whole tone and thrust of Pearson's writing - and the coverage by the Telegraph, Mail and the rest, including the Guardian until the turn of this year - is that anyone associated with demonstrating for a Gaza ceasefire, or Palestinian rights, or against war crimes, crimes against humanity or genocide, and the enablers of the state that is doing that, are described as 'Jew haters' or anti semites. So when she casually uses that label to attack a group of brown people with a flag I don't think it is specifically about Hamas or Hamas supporters; it is a slander against the whole peace and justice movement.

My final 'problem' with the Pearson post is the implication that the police (the Met in her muddled mind) are soft on Palestine protests - straight out of the Braverman and Jenrick playbook. They are not soft at all - they have aggressively policed almost wholly peaceful demonstrations over the past 13 months. But even the Met have come to realise that their heavy handed approach (directed by the last set of Tory Home Secretaries) was just provocation with not rational basis. They have now toned it down but that does not mean that the Pearson attack line is right. It isn't.

You do word things wel Jon, but on what planet have all the Palestinian protests been handled aggressively?

We all saw the police play nicely nicely with the guy clambling all over the Royal Artillery Memorial, and lots of people do find the marches intimidating.

For the record..I dont find them intimidating, but I know some do.
