    Re: Freezing This Christmas

Was going to turn this off straight away but it's actually a reasonably considered ask. Anybody who thinks the winter fuel allowance shouldn't be means tested at all is daft. I think the general consensus in the original thread was that the threshold could have been higher.

Should your means testing logic be applied to Dr's appointments, Dental appointments, hip replacements, boob jobs, etc. ? Where is the cut off line, asking for the daft.

Boob jobs? But yeah it could, in the same way winter fuel allowance could be means tested across the population rather than just for pensioners. Fyi whether you pay for dental appointments or not already is means tested, across the population. It's not really the same though, a certain lady who is idolised by some on here decided that energy should be controlled directly by the private sector whilst every government seems to agree that healthcare is a public service, available to all regardless of income and free at the point of use paid for by progressive taxation.

The bottom line is it makes no sense for a country with massive debt to give hundreds of pounds a year to someone who doesn't need it, and plenty don't.

There was also an element of thinking that th pensioners deserved it because they had voted for the Tories previously.

Incidentally you accused me of not being objective in the original thread because I was only protesting as I would lose out.
In fact I had already pointed out much earlier in the thread that I could manage without the allowance but that there were many who were far worse off than me who would suffer.

So your remark about me was a bit of an unjustified slur wasn't it Eric

All I said was I couldn't think of a reason why you were against it other than it affected you. I couldn't remember you showing up for disadvantaged groups on here before so it seemed a logical link, you had the opportunity to counter that. Then you said you would reply in full later, but that never happened from what I remember.

The reality of that thread was I said what I thought, got into some interesting discussions, found common ground with people who I don't always agree with on here and was contrite when I was called out respectfully for my tone/language by another poster.

Then you came storming in calling people hypocritical bastards, which incidentally is probably more of a slur than accusing someone of not being entirely objective.

If you want to give it, you need to be able to take it.
