So it's fascinating that people who are not poor and vulnerable and poorly educated are religious

But that's where the fascination ends , the rest of my involvement or interest in religion , God etc is focused on telling people trying to convert me to their form of this cult to naff off
My thoughts are that if you indoictrinate a child and make their mindset dependent on a paticular belief system it has very profound effect indeed. Those caught up in such a scenario don't seem to consider that they would have been an equally strong believer in a different religion if they were born in a different time or place. Childhood indoctrination is incredibly powerful.
Few people become strong believers in belief systems that they weren't exposed to as children.

My mother was from Irish Catholic stock and that lot are very devout

But by the time I was 13 I was lucky enough to have the cheek of youth to reject it all

I look back on some of that nonsense .....confirmation , first holy communion , waiting for hours and hours to see the pope when all I wanted to do on a Sunday was play football or go fishing .....I was always so bored

But a few of the ladies would dress well on a Sunday morning so it helped me pass the time

I bet most kids are bored rigid by all the faffing and nonsense , poor sods

      I think

Jesus said you would be forgiven for saying his or his father's name in vain, but not if you blasphemed the Holy Spirit, so I guess you've got nothing to worry about, Sludge.

No doubt Truthpaste will be along soon to correct me!

How do you know that Jesus said such a thing?

Cos it's in the Bible, of course. Mind you, according to said book, I don't believe Jesus ever claimed he was the son of God either.

Meanwhile, God's Word records the fact that He is the Son of God some 41 times - LINK.

You mix the word of god with your own desires so well you could easily start a cult. It's ironic that a guy called Stephen was the first Christian martyr and people mention the quality of his 'backbone' each and every day, some 2000 years after he died; he's someone who stood up for something factual and life changing, not fictional and fuzzy.

                1. Exodus 20:7 prohibits taking the name of the Lord in vain, essentially forbidding the misuse or disrespect of God's name. It states, "Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain".

                2. Question is, is Jesus both Lord and God?

Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” - John 20:27-28.

I'd rather have a purpose than just a pout.

I see. Well history is always an accurate guide:-

On average, you've posted 421 more posts than myself over the years you've been on this board.

Sure, you don't live on here, but 572 posts/ year means you 'live' on here almost 400% more than I do.

Maybe true over 14 years, but since November 2023 certainly not true.

The 'Form Guide' tells a different story!

This is a golf/religion combo meal deal.

If someone can talk about their favourite sitting position for viewing the drying of emulsion then it will be a hatrick for me.
