Are our cousins in the good 'ol USA aware that most of the world doesn't bear a weapon?

I never feel the need to arm myself when going outside of my home.
I don't feel that the threat of a home invasion requires that i need a gun to protect me.

Is it the suspicion that someone else has a gun and that threat drives you to purchase one I guess just on the off chance a loop comes a knocking and it is then you or your family ,its an american society /culture thing I guess,and we of course dont have to worry about that threat to our home or family ??
