  • A new party leader elected.

While one party with 4 MPs gets treated by some sections of the media as if they are already running the country, another party with four MPs that gets ignored have elected a new, radical, leader by a huge majority.

The London Assembly member beat Green MPs Adrian Ramsay and Ellie Chowns by a landslide.

I think a couple of those MPs might disappear at the next election because the new leader’s platform won’t appeal to voters in previously safe Tory seats, but that could be more than made up for by gains from Labour in inner city areas.

He sounds like a breath of fresh air (sorry for the pun)

Re: A new party leader elected.

Zack Polanski has led the Greens to their first Westminster by-election victory, just six months after taking over the party.

Very interesting result - not the 'safe' option.

More chance of a pact with the Corbyn-Sultana party and nationalists.

More of a focus on taking on Labour; maybe less on offering an alternative to the Lib Dems for disaffected Home Counties Tories?

What's his catchphrase, don't drill baby, don't drill?

He's an interesting and quite charasmatic speaker. I must say he is probably the clearest speaking leader we have. Almost robotic in his clarity and will cut through a lot from a party that has always been perhaps a little wooly in its thinking.

I do think he will end up tripping himself up though. His simple, clear responses to things will be used against him, as they are all populists. Started this morning when I listened to his interview on Times Radio and he tripped himself up on the Graham Linehan arrest

Freshly minted Green Party leader Zack Polanski took the opportunity on BBC Newsnight to voice his opinions on free speech. They are as expected... After

He will be a successful leader though. One thing that struck me is that there isn't room for him and Corbyns potential new party. They will not occupy the same territory, but both clearly on the populist left. Would be amazed if there isn't some kind of co-operation agreement in the future, with one or other party standing down in some constituencies.
