I take it Starmer’s reshuffle didn’t include the well overdue sacking of the”mastermind” behind the 2024 election win and everything that has happened to the Government since then?

Liz Kendall is still around, moved sideways but I can't remember where.
Edit She is Secretary of State for Science Innovation and technology

Their answer isn't a wealth tax or any of the other options not found in the neo-Con play book.
They blame Kendall and the former Chief Whip for allowing the rebellion that sank their plans last time.
Now Starmer has shifted the Cabinet even further to the right and put in place people he thinks will drive the cuts through.
It is going to get even uglier in a month or so.

Re: Pat McFadden
Another threat to Starmer and Starmerism:
Exclusive: Andy Burnham-backed Mainstream group will inevitably influence looming deputy leadership contest
Keir Starmer is facing fresh pressure from Labour insiders, days after a sweeping government reshuffle, as party figures from the left and centre mobilise through a network, backed by Andy Burnham, designed to change Labour’s direction.
The network, called Mainstream, will inevitably influence Labour’s looming deputy leadership contest, with Burnham already throwing his weight behind former cabinet minister Louise Haigh as well as Lucy Powell, the former Commons leader.
Mainstream has been steered by Compass a centre-left thinktank, and Open Labour and is backed by Burnham, the Greater Manchester mayor who when asked did not rule out the possibility of running in a future leadership contest with the network’s support.
But supporters include figures right across the party from Labour’s left to the centre, including Labour peers Alf Dubs and Anna Healy, Labour MPs Clive Lewis, Dawn Butler, Alex Sobel, Clive Efford, chair of the Tribune group of MPs, the former Blairite minister John Denham, and the founder of Momentum, Jon Lansman.
Burnham told the Guardian: “Mainstream speaks to the change that’s needed, a more inclusive, less factional way of running the party. That is right anyway, but it’s really right for the times we’re in now.
“We’ve got to get beyond this culture where everything’s a threat. If people are speaking out, it can actually be an opportunity to make changes.
“Labour’s always been factional but it’s become more so in recent times than I can remember in almost 40 years in the party. You don’t win through a factional approach. You win through a broader approach.”
Its founders say it is designed to be the “home for Labour’s radical realists”, promising to provide a space for members to discuss vision, policy and electoral strategy. They also aim to campaign in constituency Labour parties (CLPs) and across the country for what they describe as bold but practical reforms.
The Labour deputy leadership contest, and the next budget, will define whether or not Sultana is right when she says 'Labour is dead'.

Re: Pat McFadden
The Labour Party that those of us around Starmer’s age remember through nearly all of our life no longer exists while he’s in charge (it did through the Blair years) and people like McFadden has the amount of influence that he enjoys. Starmer doesn’t believe in anything and I can only think that it’s the pursuit of power pure and simple that drives him, but to what purpose?

Sultana and Corbyn starting up this party for real socialism blah blah blah will even if its moderately successful ensure farage wins the next election by splitting an already fractured government
The way to sort out farage is to work within the labour party .....already in government .....to oust starmer and get rid of his crew
Starting a new party that weakens his main opposition is electoral suicide
I am staggered you cant see this
Its all very well having principles but this new party is about egos
How on earth is sultana proposing taking the fight to reform at the next election when her party will directly weaken any chance of doing that by chopping the legs off his closest threat ?

Re: Pat McFadden
Exactly, Starmer plummets in the polls and his reaction is to tack ever rightward. The large majority of what is now called the progressive vote don’t want to be governed by what we’ve had in power since 2010 - Starmer doesn’t seem to realise that the days of Labour taking the votes of the left for granted have gone and right wingers aren’t going to make up that shortfall because, no matter how much he appeals to them to do so, they’ll never do it because, just like I’d never vote Tory, they’ll never bring themselves to back Labour.Originally posted by jon1959 View PostSultana is calling for unity against Farage. Re: Pat McFadden
I don’t consider Starmer’s Labour to be my party, they’ve lost me, so the fracture has already occurred and I think it’s the same for many others who had voted Labour all of their lives.Originally posted by SLUDGE FACTORY View PostDon't be daft
