It is an obvious target for ridicule (from all sides) but the piss take only works when it is rooted in fact.

The Air France pilot took off from London to Paris with a full aircraft apart from a couple of empty seats where the ‘one for one’ migrants had been disembarked pending an appeal.

These are normal seats on scheduled flights - not the moral, legal and financial lunacy of the Rwanda Scheme - where a similar legal challenge would have resulted in an empty plane, one that HMG had already paid for up front.

That did justify the headlines!

Are the BBC doing someones bidding here? Announcing that as if it is an achievement seems pretty devious, most people are going to laugh at that, deporting 1 sounds worse than deporting 0.

Its a bit like a few months ago I saw an interview with a PIP claimant who 'needed' the money for special £10 toothpaste that didn't give her sensory overload. It was framed in a very neutral way, but the person writing that must have known that most people are going to look at it and think 'she's taking the piss'. Made me wonder anyway.

There’s been a second now hasn’t there.

I heard an interesting take on the overturning of the appeal against the deportation of the first one in this deal with France in which it was claimed that it was the fact that France are signatories to the various human rights legislation that the likes of Reform and a lot of Conservatives want overturned that was crucial in the decision - the person being deported would be treated “acceptably” in France, so it was decided the scheme between the UK and French Governments was acceptable. The conclusion, apparently, being that repealing human rights legislation in the UK could make the immigration crisis worse not better.
