    Re: Autism, whitehouse announcement later

Autism diagnoses have increased sharply since 2000, and by 2020 the rate among 8-year-olds reached 2.77%, according to the US Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Scientists attribute at least part of the rise to increased awareness of autism and an expanding definition of the disorder. Researchers have also been investigating environmental factors.

    Source:
Some studies have suggested an association between the two, but experts say there is no causal relationship.

Paracetamol has been available from at least the early 1960’s IIRC although it was discovered much earlier than that. I remember the first generic versions becoming available in the late 60’s. Hence I cannot see that paracetamol has any connection with the rise in autism from the year 2000 on. I suspect that that the expanding definition of the disorder is the reason, as mentioned in the BBC article.

I would be more worried about paracetamol and attendant liver toxicity!

I don't know what's going on, but something is. There seems to be a fad greater prevelance of it - and other forms of what we call neurodiversity now. I have assumed its down to increased tech and less human in interaction. And that really does worry me, across the board in terms of the socialisation and wellbeing of people.

That said, I also think there was a massive under diagnosis in the past. I am sure when we all look back, whether we grew up in the 90s, 80s, 70s, 60s, whatever..autism just wasn't called that. Kids were called naughty or weird or trouble instead. Actuslly horrible what some poor kids must have gone through.

        Also from that article:

In the past, Kennedy has offered debunked theories about the rising rates of autism, blaming vaccines despite a lack of evidence.

He was tasked earlier this year by Trump to find a cause by the end of this year for the increase in autism diagnoses. How can he go from being adamant that vaccines are the cause to now saying it’s paracetamol during pregnancy? The guy is full of shite.

I wonder how high the autism rate is in the Appalachians?

Yep, clearly nonsense. But there are a couple of posters who have painted themselves into a corner when it comes to believing everything Trump and his team say. It looks like you've pointed out the nonsense one time too many, and now you're on their hitlist too!

This is the sad thing. We've got better and now those children have more of a chance in life, by getting diagnosed and helped. It's also good for the others in the class. It looks like those days are over for now in the US.

It doesn't really look like those days are over does it. They are talking about causes not just diagnosis.

They havent said they are going to stop diagnosing or helping autistic kids, have they?

In one way ,at least bad science against paracetamol is better than the deadly consequences of the false MMR scare. Getting RFK to focus his craziness away from vaccines is a win of sorts.
In another way of course though any news story that doesn't mention Epstein is a win for the clickbait President. He'll need something else mad to say in about 3 days now by my count.

You spent 7 year of your life telling everybody that Trump was colluding with Russia. You are obsessed with him and maybe you should seek a professional opinion?

Trump has sacked half of the Department of Education with a view to closing it completely. Does that sound like they're going to be working hard to diagnose and help autistic kids? It doesn't to me.
