If by 'ridiculous budget situation' you mean a few nothing tax rises to create a situation where the government is less affected by .x changes to macro-economic forecasts then sure I think the media have probably pushed her into being a bit less blindly optimistic but constantly talking about how shit the UK is.

Yes everybody already knows that governments try and use the media to drip feed/test policy. It would seem weird if they were in cahoots given the massively negative coverage Reeves has gotten since the budget.

The job is done, and they're already on to the next thing. Rinse & repeat.

What with so many young people now seeing a career in welfare can be so much more fruitful than those who choose to do the employment thing, they will probably secure the votes of millions of young people who can’t be arsed with all that getting up in the morning lark and having to deal with people.
