Just had a letter , our son ( under 10 ) is now only entitled to a check up once every two years

We are both private payers

Insane what’s happening in the dental industry

Dentists, like doctors, get an interest free loan from the taxpayer that is used to fund their training, and it never needs to be repaid. You'd think part of that contract was they'd have to provide more NHS units than the current requirement. Its scandalous that children aren't having 6 monthly check ups (and other dental services) free at point of delivery.

Loads of eastern european dentists pissed off home after brexit

And this country wants more and more services for lower and lower taxation

There is sufficient evidence suggesting there is enough dental practitioners the issue is the lack of NHS dental care available, as hardly any are taking on new NHS patients and the majority are going down the private health care route.

Children are free in my private dental practice but not all are. It’s been in decline since Covid and my hygienist is from Bilbao.

It costs £250-500k to train a doctor or dentist. This is not paid for by the doctor/dentist. The taxpayer gives them that money as an "interest free loan that never has to be paid back"

Hopefully that is a bit more understandable for the pedants amongst us.

The taxpayer funds the training.

Blame the medical professionals. What's even worse is we're seeing big business buying up independent dental practices and they've turned their back on NHS completely.

Unless I'm mistaken, dentistry is medical care ergo should always be free at point of use.

I got a letter the other week saying NHS dental services were changing and the dentists letter blamed the Welsh Govt (I don't think it's much better in England btw)

The issue fundamentally seems to be that private practice is far more lucrative, and I can imagine has less issues too.

It's a total mess and a disgrace. I've said on here before but my mum drives an hour and a half to see a dentist. It's disgusting

The funding model for NHS dentistry doesn't cover the costs to provide the treatment. Im not sure the new deal does either.
Until it does, dental practices will offer a minimum service as they cant run operating at a loss

i,m still with a NHS dentist and been using the same practise for about 20 years now and the service has been great so far .

i get sent a check up every 12 months in fact going on Friday

Anyone else here still under a NHS dentist ? or most using private on here ?
