  • The Mandalorian & Grogu

It's not been a secret that I've been a big fan of the Star Wars franchise, very often and with a few hours to spare re watching the original films, if you didn't like them you hated them, but for those of us who loved them, the magic has gone, it was OKish and I'm glad I've see it on the big screen, however, it was 30 mins too long, less than 20 in the cinema which was great and didn't have to suffer the pop corn and crisp packet brigade with the disgusting stench of tomato sauce.

I watched the first three. Then the three prequels. Then two (maybe three) of the stand alone spin offs. But what I’m really interested in is your powerful aversion to tomato sauce! Tell us more.

Give or take a year or so, i believe we are around the same age and as youngster say before 8, when you sat at the dinner table (many did back then as a family) you ate what was put on the table, the disgusting looking canned tomatoes was on the plate, almost made me sick looking at it and the smell !!!, I went all brave and whispered I don't like tomatoes just on the look and smell, and my late father bless him had a little hissy fit and basically shoved them down me to which within a very short period of time I was violently puking it up, I have detested with passion everything "except baked beans and previously spaghetti" and anything with tomato, the grand kids knowing i hated it, loaded it up to wind me up, Tomato has taken so many food options away from me, whilst not quite so bad, Salt and Vinegar crisps has a similar effect on me!!! Whilst i don't eat it, i like the smell of brown sauce, same with curry, being adventurous for me is having a dry Chicken Tikka.

When i was a kid my mother was trying to get me to eat liver and onions. I will eat absolutely anything, never had a problem with food, but that day (i must have been about 12 or 13) i was having none of it. My old man was sat opposite reading The Sporting Life (broadsheet back the) all i could see was his brow, and every time i kicked back at my mother i could see the Paper moving and the skin on his forehead tightening up.

It all came to a head when i told my mother to ****off. The old man picked up a glass of milk on the table and emptied it all over me. The paper didn't move, the only part of his body that moved was his arm. My mother, without speaking a word, picked up a tea towel and mopped it up, the old man didn't utter i word. I cried and attempted to eat liver and onions doused in milk. I look back on that now and think, **** me, that was the coolest and worst bit of parenting from my old man i'd ever seen :hehe:

As for Tomatos, shame you don't like them. I have 18 Tomato plants on the go at my allotment and even if i say so myself, they're looking good. Also got cucumbers, Broccoli, onions, spring onions, runner beans, parsnip, cauliflower, Chilli plants x5 Sprouts, strawberries, spuds, carrots and pumpkins on the go. Got a plot just off Caerphilly rd, Summerfield place. It's absolutely fantastic for my mental health and everything else in between

As Tuerto says, it is a real shame you don’t like tomato.

When I was a youngster my Grampy used to call me the Tomato Kid (or sometimes the Marmite Kid) - he was into Zane Gray western paperbacks!

I will eat almost anything - including fried insects in east Asian street markets (that one is for you, Gluey!). The only exceptions are an irrational dislike of courgettes and a totally rational dislike of fish with big shells (my one and only experience of lobster was in Jamaica almost 40 years ago that led to a long night of projectile vomiting).
