Isn't the purpose of prison rehabilitation rather than punishment? And why can't those who are not deemed a flight risk or dangerous be allowed to work on the outside picking up litter, cleaning graffiti, and so on. Many would prefer working outdoors than being inside all day.

Are the ones being released early now being made to do voluntary work ?

now I appreciate most forumers think I am God and that I know everything there is to know, but I can assure you I am just a man with mediocre intellect.

The comment from william was that in order to put more people in prison we have to build more prisons

Or in the case of the current government reduce sentences for non violent or non sexual crimes to free up more spaces .....as a short term measure I agree with that

What is the alledgedly horrific attack in Belfast to do with this ?

I would imagine the animal that has done this wether he racially abused or not is looking at a long long time in prison and deservedly so

I'll put this simply.

Everyone agrees violent criminals should be punished, whether or not they are immigrants is irrelevant. Violent criminals are the biggest problem.

However, if I'm offered a choice between immigrants as a whole and frothing at the mouth immigrant derangement syndrome rightoids, I'm picking the immigrants every time. I'd honestly prefer deporting the worst rightoids to the Falklands or Ascension Island than entertain the idea that "millions must go".

Almost no-one disagrees with punishing criminal immigrants. My problem with the right is that the fury naturally flows toward those who are nothing but a positive to the nation. If presented with an "us or them" choice, I'm choosing them.

No-one is defending these monsters. They're individuals, not a representation that every immigrant is bad. You learn this shit when you're very young.

There's a particular, pernicious narrative being penned by the ultra-rich to absolve themselves of any blame despite being those with the most material influence and power in society. Even if we somehow got rid of all immigrants, good and bad, they would designate another target. It'll be women, or LGBT people, or whoever else they can concoct a story that sticks to them so they can absolve themselves. They absolutely refuse to find a system that would help the most amount of people and instead create distractions that the right either agree with or get tricked into believing.

That's not me saying we need open borders, or that there are no benefits to the capitalist class for mass migration, but the narrative has swayed towards a fanatic, rabid nationalism in the West that China are laughing their asses off at.
