Simon Kuper, who's a very good football writer, has written a column in the Financial Times asking the question is Trump a Fascist? He thinks he isn't, but he hardly mounts a defence of the orange crook.

Simon Kuper, who's a very good football writer, has written a column in the Financial Times asking the question is Trump a Fascist? He thinks he isn't, but he hardly mounts a defence of the orange crook.

I note Kuper thinks Trump falls short of being a fascist by the omission of only one trait on the classic Umberto Eco list i.e. that he hasn't the obsession with constant wars. Kuper believes Trump is simply a narcissistic, amoral, hedonist and like all bullies will only initiate aggression against the weak. He is purely transactional and will plunder anything he can get so long as he doesn't encounter retaliation.

It's hardly an acquittal. The World is a darker place with Trump in it.

Quite plainly isn't what I do though is it. I think a bit of balance is in order. USA is the most powerful country on earth. It deserves greater scrutiny than most for that reason, but not something out of all proportion, because that actually allows real tyrants to get aware with things far more.

You don't have to speak about them, but when you only scrutinize America it doesn't imply the best intentions and it suggests lives elsewhere are worth less.
