    Agree 100%.

The vast majority of electors choose a party badge not a candidate.

The party's deputy leader Tom Watson accuses a local party of trying to force MP Luciana Berger out.

The ex-Labour MP faces a Parliament pass ban over his conduct - but he rejects the inquiry's verdict.

      Straight Question then

Why in almost every thread factually critical of Conservative Politicians or policies do you avoid or gloss over the substance of the issue raised and instead seek to deflect or project equal or greater sins onto other political parties or former party leaders?

        Words absolutely fail me.

“I was told by Tory MPs, at the height of the Rashford row, that members of the govt were threatening to withhold money from schools in their (deprived) constituencies if they voted to extend free school meals. These practices aren’t new but Will Wragg has shone a light on them.”

I actually agree with both of you on this one. I think the tradition is showing its age now.

As has been said overwhelmingly people vote for parties nowadays and not candidates; some people probably can't remember the name of the candidate they voted for but they will remember the party.

There have been notable exceptions down the years where a candidate/sitting MP has been hugely popular with voters of all colour and persuasions; David Amery was the most recent example. But that situation is the exception rather than the rule.

Nevertheless, it is easy to see why many people feel cheated if an MP has switched sides so I think a by-election would be the fairest outcome for all

Incidentally, it seems Christian Wakeford is not getting a ringing endorsement from all the Labour supporters in Bury South. Apart from the expected excoriating reception from Tory sympathisers, many Labour voters are wary of him and are dubious about the reasons for his defection. Many point out that his recent voting record on Universal Credit etc. has not been compatible with socialist values.

I notice today he has responded to the claims of whip's bullying by William Wragg today by claiming he too had been forced to vote against his convictions through intimidation. I wonder if he is attempting to curry favour?

              His voting record:

See how Christian Wakeford voted on topics like Employment, Social Issues, Foreign Policy, and more.

Welcomed with open arms by Starmer - the man who won't return the whip to Jeremy Corbyn!

I could be wrong, but this has the feel of tomorrow’s chip wrapper to me, there needs to be more MPs backing up this story than Mr Wragg, who’s hardly a Johnson fan, and someone who defected to the Labour Party this week.

It does feel as though Johnson will be able to ride this out for now.
I think it is probably better for Labour if he does too

                        Few days to go.

Cummings may join the Labour Party or offer up a new picture.

Carrie might want a refurb or another baby .

I hear Dylan the dog is defecting due to so many kids and parties.

                        Love opposition politics.

Jezzer still out raging Brexiteer in .

                        All going so well.

Should be a landslide election .

                        😅

I think ur right on both counts. At least until this Sue Gray report. If that criticises him strongly then I think he'll lose support and face s challenge.

Long term the longer he stays in it turns into a positive slowly, as he becomes 'strong, resilient, powerful,' etc and has 2-3 years to turn polls round with a successful economy and all the rest

                            Really critical week coming.

The Sue Gray report won't pass judgement or make recommendations, it'll just be factual. This and that happened.

The question is, how much of it will make it into the public domain as it will be handed straight to Johnson first.

Yeah , fair point. I mean whether the facts damn him in themselves really.
