I don't think he's ever been a hero.

Been an interesting journalist, author and commentator.

Seems to have been spending a lot of his time recently bashing the left. The recent Greyzone attacks shows what trajectory he's on.

I have read three of his books (two political and one novel) and have got 'How To Stop Fascism' on my shelf to read. I went to see him talk about it last year as part of the Sheffield 'Off The Shelf Festival'. I disagreed with some of his views but he was well worth listening to - and he had a 'robust' debate at the end with some of his critics (all 'lefties' in your language).

I'm left of centre left, but some distance from the Trotskyite left. I just thought the rumours of him being a govt agent with a brief to destroy the left were interesting, and possibly another name to add to a growing list of state sponsored journalists?

I quite liked him on Channel 4 news. Plain to see where his politics was, but he was bound to display even some balance and I liked his style. Since leaving there I've found him a tiresome old bore, preaching to the converted on twatter about the usual old tropes (everyone is a fascist etc etc etc). He also does seem to be a bit of a bully. At least he is working class so he displays less anti-brexit snobbery than many of his contempories. I also imagine he would be a good laugh on the piss, which is actually important in how I assess people!

I saw his recent fall out with some on the left but didn't follow it closely as it struck me as a classic 'peoples front of Judea v Judean peoples front' stuff.
