Has passed away aged 89. A famous name from my football memories. Top scorer in a World Cup Finals, 13 in just 6 games in 1958. RIP to proper football legend.

You see it now at tournaments, Mam & Dads with babes in arms at games. Not that he went but couldn’t imagine my old man taking me to Sweden in 1958……and I’d have never taken mine when they were toddlers.

The coverage on tv was pretty poor really, mostly highlights of England and some of Wales. If I remember correctly the final was live.
Games against Hungary, especially the first were like a war of attrition. They kicked John Charles out of the competition, we did beat them in the play off for quarter final against Brazil, justice done.
