  • IT's ALMOST CRUEL

some vintage stuff from the 70's with Leeds at the time . slightly too young to remember but can see how that side with modern technology would have survived in the modern game if those players were around now almost pep style in the 70's mould .

They pass the ball so well on pitches that were so patchy and rough , footballs that were much heavier than the modern ones , quite an achievement...

Old Barrie Davies had such a distinct voice , unlike the turgid mutterings we get now.

I can remember that Leeds side. They were good, but all that ****ing about with the ball at 7-0 was not who they were. Alan Clarke was a very skilful player, but Leeds were more about determination and brute force. They were dirty as ****.

Bremner, Cooper, Reaney, Hunter, Madeley, Charlton. Most teams had one or two enforcers. Leeds had half a team.

I would argue it was exactly who they were - a week or two earlier, they had done the same sort of thing to Manchester United, although not quite as intent on humiliating the opposition as they were against Southampton. When challenged to “show us your medals”, Leeds players could come up with a fairly tidy haul, but not as many as a team with their talent should have been able to - sometimes teams benefit from opponents who aren’t too bothered about the result in end of season games, but Leeds never got things that easy, because they were despised by so many in the game and so they ended short often because of results against opponents who should have had their minds “on the beach”.

I recall the 2-0 defeat by Leeds in an FA up tie back in the day. Most complete and comprehensive performance I had ever seen. May just as well have been 7-0.
In recent years that performance has probably been matched by Man City but bloody good all the same.

They were ‘Dirty Leeds’, had some right hatchet men, even the more skilful ones like Giles & Clarke. ‘Dirty Leeds’ indeed but they didn’t really need to be. Don Revie eh!

They were actually a tremendous side but horrible at the same time.
Don Revie , well I have a particularly unpleasant place in my memory for him that involves the insertion of his beloved dossiers and his blood money in a certain area.
The treatment of Gary Sprake also speaks volumes about what that club was all about.
