  • Chris Gunter

It’s become the norm to diss Chris Gunter when it comes to Wales selection lately. I get that and agreed that the time had come to move on from the likes of him and Jonny Williams - well, it seems that Gunts agrees because he’s announced his retirement from international football.

Wales defender Chris Gunter retires from international football at the age of 33.

Rob Phillips has written a warm and perceptive review of Gunter’s international career there and all I’ll add is, despite him not being more than a good Championship player when it came to club football, you’d could count the number of times he was “found out” in a Wales shirt on the fingers of one hand - in fact, I can’t think of one really poor game he had for his country.

    That's great.
Fabulous achievement to be the first player to 100 caps.
    Also "That Cross" to Vaulks.

I'd still prefer him to Conor Roberts.

Vokes rather than Vaulks (he would have thrown it back with interest)! Loved the Don't take me home documentary with Coleman screaming to him to take it into the corner, followed by Noooo Christopher!!!, then absolute carnage.

Had a ticket above the main Belgian section which was still 95% Belgian. Remember jumping up on a seat and screaming at the top of my voice for at least 2 minutes. When I came back down to earth there were no Belgians left.

Thanks for that moment, Christopher, and the fantastic service before and after.

          Re: Chris Gunter

Ive never been one to slag of Gunts, he always gave 100% for his country and never hid when times were tough, he took it on the chin and just got on with it, it was a honour for him to play for his country and that was easy to see, personally, I would have got him on for 2 mins in the last World Cup game, but im sentimental like that, I think he deserved that, for me the picture that sums him up is the " chin up " from euro16, he must have known what ws around the corner :wales::wales::wales::wales:

          nice statement from him

"I’ve had the privilege of representing our great country for 15 years, and it’s given me some of the best times of my career and my life.

To all of the managers I’ve played under, and all of the staff who have helped me in many different ways, I have so much appreciation for you and need to say a huge thank you.

I’ve always said when you can share moments with not just team mates but friends it’s even more special, and I’ve been so lucky to share the dressing room with people who are real mates for life.

From a young kid growing up in Wales the dream was to always play and wear that red shirt. What not even I dreamt of was the memories and experiences it has given me and my family.

Which has been made possible by you lot, the fans. I’ve tried to tell you many times how much you’ve helped, although it’s hard to find the words to articulate. So I’ll just say the biggest thank you, and see you soon.

We’re in a great place with this staff and squad, with loads to look forward to.

          Gunts"

It always showed how much he enjoyed playing for Wales. It's incredible to think how far we have come since him and Bale came through as kids. Absolute hero and hope he is involved in the Welsh setup in the future.

Massive respect to him. Always turned up and was always a reliable if unspectacular player who I suspect gave a lot off the pitch as well, not least in recent years as a more experienced player.

A greats servant to the Welsh team, well don't Gunts!

Not his fault he kept getting picked is it.

                  Happy retirement.

                    Re: Chris Gunter

never let Wales down, Mr consistency even if he's been on paper a weak link for quite a few years now.

I wasn't keen on them giving him caps just to get him over 100 caps, as it felt like that kind of devalued that achievement towards the end.

To be fair he played in 7 competitive games after his 100th cap including against Italy at the Euros
