He does, but it's nothing to do with football.

He had a similar scoring ratio to Boland. If you're not happy with McPhail's scoring record, then surely you can't be happy with your Willy's.

It was you lot of chances that spoke about goals from midfield

Boland did the groundwork allowing kav etc to play the pretty stuff

Asking Mcphail to be a goalscorer was like asking Glenn hoddle in his prime to get stuck in when it was pouring down

You declined to include McPhail in a best Dave Jones XI because he didn't score enough goals. I presume you would have included your hero, despite his similar ineptitude in front of goal.

And that was because you said that a perfect midfielder scores goals with your link

You can't have it both ways sonny

I haven't claimed McPhail was ever a perfect midfielder. He was a far better midfielder for us in the Championship than Boland ever was, though.

I have said that a box-to-box midfielder scores goals and contributes with assists. Boland did neither. McPhail did contribute assists with some sumptuous through balls. Boland couldn't find Kavanagh 5 yards away with a simple pass.

Football is more than just brute force and battling.

You got a problem with Boland means you got a problem with me

McPhail may have not scored many goals (they were usually excellent ones when he did score mind), but how many City players have provided more goal assists than him in the last twenty years? Whitts probably because he took free kicks and corners, but is there any one who made more goals for us in open play in the last two decades?

Another one who takes free kicks and corners - Whitts played 413 league games for us, Ralls is on 319 and McPhail played 190.

Ledley had 21. Chris Burke had 23 from far less games than the others.

What it does show is how good Whittingham was.

Of course all those bar Ralls for large parts had our best strike partnership in the last 20 years. Bothroyd Chopra McCormack.
