Re: Cardiff Catchment area
If the OP is who I strongly suspect he is, he always likes complaining about plastic fans and in the same breath bemoaning the fact people from 25-30 miles away don’t turn up to watch Cardiff.
I wasn’t born a Cardiff fan just because of my proximity to the club. I became a fan after my parents took me to games and I got the bug and it became a part of my social life with friends and family week in week out.
I’d like to see the numbers redone but this time with the number of people who live within a certain travelling distance to each stadium. A 30 min drive or 45 mins on public transport or something like that. Saying we’ve got over 1,000,000 people in our catchment area must mean they’re including people all the way up to Rhymney and Merthyr. They’re both about 90mins each way on trains/busses and with match day traffic, probably an hour drive.
How many other teams on that list have a catchment area with people that far away?

Are you saying I complain about plastics , as I certainly don’t , or are you referring to somebody else ?Originally posted by Canton Kev View PostIf the OP is who I strongly suspect he is, he always likes complaining about plastic fans and in the same breath bemoaning the fact people from 25-30 miles away don’t turn up to watch Cardiff.

Re: Cardiff Catchment area
The tweet begins 'If you're from Cardiff....."
The potential population support figure would be more relevent if it included those who had lived in the area for a specified time - say ten or twenty years.
I'm not 'from Cardiff' which I take to mean being born and bred in the city, though I've lived in the City for around fifty years.
It would be interesting to know how many of the 1.045 million had been local residents for ten years.
People shouldn't have to support a club just because they now live in the area. For many, their first experience of watching football may well be far away from where they now live.
I've been a City ST holder because I want to watch a good level of football, but when I attended the City FA Cup Final, I supported the other team.

I doubt it’s that in depth, just a talking point which most of us know anyway.Originally posted by Cyclops View PostThe tweet begins 'If you're from Cardiff....."

Re: Cardiff Catchment area
The general point I think is that could you chat football with some geezer from pontypridd who watches man United on the telly ?
I couldn't
His cousin who follows cardiff ? Yeah , that's more like it
There are similar fans in Swansea , Bristol etc and whilst when you are young success is important to see grown men in Liverpool tops in South Wales is embarrassing as far as I am concerned
We do have a large catchment area but sadly not enough of them support CCFC

Re: Cardiff Catchment area
If people can move from Scotland or London to South Wales and still have a soft spot for their teams ......say rangers or spurs ......yet follow Cardiff .....
Then that makes the locals who suck up to Liverpool and United and ignore cardiff , Swansea, Newport etc a bunch of clowns 🤡
