  • Should he be allowed to referee the Champions League Final?

I’m really torn about this, he was in charge of the World Cup Final and ordinarily I’d say a referee’s political views aren’t important, but, if there is a line to cross, the person he is supposed to have spoken in favour of has done so.

It's difficult to see how someone with far right views, I couldn't see anyone with any other leanings speaking at the event, can be impartial when refereeing incidents involving Jewish, Black or Asian players.

Probably agree that with those, seemingly extreme views, it is not really appropriate.

        No platform for these clowns

UEFA should give him the opportunity to disown his far right buddy and have a word

If he doesn't distance himself from Mr asshole then he's guilty by association and should be removed

          Definitely not.
Never ceases to amaze me that only a generation or two after his ancestors suffered from forms of political extremism left and right, he thinks that's the answer.

Sadly your hero Ozzy ( greatest rock singer I've heard ) may have succumbed and sucked on the nipple of rich capitalism .

Another alleged caring socalist hypocritic is that awful non tax paying Bono.

Lord knows what point you're trying to make, but you have succeeded in clarifying my thinking. I can listen to and enjoy Who, Sex Pistols/Public Image and Rolling Stones tracks even though the singer involved does not share my political opinions. I can't unlike all of those Smiths records from forty years ago because of some of the things Morrissey has said in the last few years. However, I talked about lines to cross in my OP and none of the vocalists mentioned cross them in my book - the bloke who the ref spoke in favour of does though based on what is in the article I linked.

Re: Should he be allowed to referee the Champions League Final?

                    Always a tricky one.

Does a persons views and actions affect their job performance. Totally conflicted on this broader subject.
In this example can he be impartial as a referee? My gut would say no, but the evidence suggests he can seperate his views hence noted as one of the best referees in the world. Does he deserve a chance? It's not fair but I would want the best referee for the biggest game. Still, from what little i've read does seem a odius man if you're attending a rally of that nature.

Would I want Mason Greenwood ever stepping back on a football pitch? No. What would I do to stop that, i'm not sure.

Referee Anthony Taylor, getting attacked at the airport by Roma fans. This is absolutely disgusting to see, wow! https://t.co/q9g23LrBu3

Re: Should he be allowed to referee the Champions League Final?

It's a tough one as I am firmly in the equality camp in the sense that the best person for the job should get it, despite creed, colour, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, and political views, he has ref'd a world cup final, so he is probably deemed the best in Europe.

But it really shows how behind the curve football authorities are with institutional or mass racism in European football culture.

IMO Racism is a societal issue that mirrors in football, you get occasional events here and it's dealt with. In some parts of Eufa countries, football is a place to promote racism and it is barely discouraged at all. The president of LaLiga, gawd....

To say the Eufa and Fifa are tone deaf is an understatement.
