  • One that got away.

Remember that game at Fulham at the end of the 18/19 season when Neil Warnock, rightly, got all sorts of stick as Rhys Healey was used as a sub while Josh Murphy stayed on the bench? The defeat more or less confirmed our relegation and it's still widely believed that Warnock cocked up.

I didn't hear or read of anyone who disagreed with the decision to release Healey at the end of that season either, while Murphy was widely picked as one of the players who could fire us back into the top flight in the coming season, but it's amazing to compare how the two players have progressed since then.

Last season while Murphy was a goalless bit part player for an Oxford side that almost fell into the fourth tier, Healey was the top scorer in France's Ligue 2 as he helped Toulouse to promotion. Healey's told his club that he will not be signing a new contract in the summer and so I have two questions, would you take him back and would he be interested in a return to Cardiff - I think he could do better than us now.

Rhys Healey is leaving Toulouse. He’s announced he will leave this summer when his contract expires. He scored 40 goals in 78 matches for the French side. In the 21/22 season he finished as Ligue 2’s top scorer and helped his club to promotion. https://t.co/Fzi4AvQK38

Jesus. That game still makes me mad. Warnock was terrible in PL. We just laid down too many times.

France's Ligue 2 - Isnt that the equivalent of the same standard as Oxford anyway ?

As I remember, Healey ran around a lot but couldnt put the ball in the net.

Not so. Toulouse were in Ligue 1 last season (they finished 13th). Healey barely played through injury. He made four sub appearances and scored two goals, but he didn’t start a single game.

It was 2021/22 when Healey was scoring lots of goals for Toulouse in Ligue 2. Murphy was on loan at Preston then.

I had to explain to someone that the Hooded Claw and Dick Dastardly were two different characters in two different cartoons the other day. And that you've got The Perils of Penelope Pitstop, Wacky Races and Dick Datardly and Mutely in their Flying Machines. It was very complicated and confusing. For him.

As much as a case of attitude over ability. Murphy didn't look out of place in the PL, he was just bone idle and wouldn't do what the manager[s] wanted from him. But I always though Healey was slow, sluggish. He's been with 5 different clubs between City and toulouse , so he's taken a while to develop. Maybe have him over Harris..

Another young player we didn't give a proper chance. Seems to be a constant theme.

I think youve got this one wrong Bob or at least partly so.

The outcry I remember was Rhys Healey being brought off the bench seemingly as his long throw could be utilised in preference to Bobby Reid. A ridiculous decision with Reid coming on eventually in the last few minutes.

Maybe Murphy not coming on was questioned but the outcry im virtually certain was Reid being the one not coming on.

Paul’s had a bit of a mare here. Josh Murphy wasn’t even in the squad for that Fulham game.

That's what I get for not checking things before I post something :hehe: - I can remember the incredulity that Healey was in the squad before Murphy now though and it does not lessen the point about the contrast in the two players' fortunes since 2019.

My stupid fault about Healey in 21/22 not 22/23 as it was there in the article in front of me, but, if anything, what happened to him in the season just ended makes him someone we might be able to compete for - my feeling is though that he could still do better than us and, anyway, having experienced Vincent Tan's Cardiff City once, would he want to come back for more?

I remember he was heavily linked with West Brom after that Ligue 2 season, but then as others have said he spent most of last season injured.

I think if he'd shown he could carry on that form in Ligue 1 a few teams would have come in for him.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Healey now. I think he missed 9 months of the season following an ACL injury, but he scored the winner at Monaco on his return in June within a couple of minutes of coming on as a sub.

He’s clearly developed into a decent player.

Let’s bring him back and ruin him. Finish what we started.

Who was the last striker to come to us and actually play better than they were playing?

                              Bothroyd?
