Re: O/T Cardiff Blues merger
You would have thought that the Welsh regions need to consolidate around the two club Scottish model. A Swansea/Llanelli and Cardiff/Newport split could work if ground sharing arrangements could be agreed but a Cardiff/Ospreys merger looks culturally bonkers!
Still if there was a football equivalent where one Welsh club emerged from a Cardiff/Swansea merger, that played at the CCS and in tribute to both clubs' heritage called itself Cardiff City, I for one would hold my nose and accept it!

Re: O/T Cardiff Blues merger
Why is that? Not enough support in South Wales, or interest in the club game? Not enough wealthy backers? Rugby isn't exactly a 'Sexy' game, is it? I don't actually know anyone who watches The Blues, although i know plenty who watch The City (obviously) a fair few who watch Glamorgan and The Devils. Seems like a dying sport that's been left behind, culturally as well (In Wales)Originally posted by WJ99mobile View PostIt’s on its last breath anyway.
It needs total reform

It still saddens me how the fans of Pontypridd were shafted.
I’ve always been a fan of Newport RFC.
The Dragons have no appeal to me whatsoever and less so to the likes of Pontypool and Ebbw Vale.
How Cardiff RFC and Llanelli were essentially allowed to continue in their forms was shite.
The game is beyond recognition now as a spectator sport.

Rugby chat on a football messageboard is off topic to me , but perhaps I’m wrong, but that’s another topic ShirleyOriginally posted by Dave Blue View PostDoes OT mean off topic? If so, what is the ‘topic’? City, football? In which case virtually every other thread is OT, especially in the Summer.

Re: O/T Cardiff Blues merger
Cardiff Blues are apparently one of the most famous rugby clubs in the world ?
That's according to a few Cardiff Blues fans
And that's a few quite literally as there isn't many of them
Welsh club rugby has had it .
I wish more people would support CCFC and at least take an interest but I know plenty of fans from South Wales
I don't know anyone who goes and watches Cardiff Rugby or The Ospreys
Nobody

Re: O/T Cardiff Blues merger
The WRU may have won the war with the regions but there is no one to rule.
The Ospreys owners believe there may be more value in merging the two clubs for a 24% stake. That tells you where they think this is going.
I admire those in the community game, they are die hards of the game, then you have the day tripper on the big Wales games, but no one gives a rats arse about the regional game.
Its a crazy model. UK Professional Rugby is dying on its arse or is nowhere near as big as they thought, and the WRU/RFU have no idea what's needed.

I thought the English premiership was much sought after and the Welsh clubs would love to join it ?Originally posted by llan bluebird View PostThe WRU may have won the war with the regions but there is no one to rule.

My mate is from Bath and they sell out every home game ?

Re: O/T Cardiff Blues merger
Three clubs went bust though.
I would be in the scrap the regions and have two teams with no real "home" and beg to join the English league camp.
But the game is on its arse, the regions have failed, and Wales is parochial so it needs to be radical. Why does it have to be based on location? Games could move throughout the country
The Welsh professional football clubs are truly regional, but they have been there here for a very long time. Most of that time rugby was amateur and based on my village, town or district rivalries and i can't see that changing without radical changes
As soon as England are "also runs" I can see UK game continuing its demise
