There’s another very good Ashes test match taking place currently. England’s women have been set 268 to beat the Australian side I’ve seen described as the best sporting team in the world. I’d say the Aussies are probably still favourites, but if England manage to do it,they’ll owe a lot to an amazing effort from spinner Sophie Ecclestone - she bowled an incredible seventy seven overs and one ball in the match for figures of 10-192.
It turned out I wasn’t the only person who made the joke about the men picking Ecclestone to replace Jack Leach, but it would be interesting to see her bowling in a men’s game - there’s some pretty ordinary spinners playing county cricket currently and in terms of accuracy and control, I’d say Ecclestone could well be better than them.
