Levitt was the main provider for a lot of his goals.

Havent managed to watch him in the SPL which is televised but an expert on his time with Manchester United youth teams.

Put the phone or laptop down for a bit mate and go outside in the real world, maybe get some exercise. Youre living in a online fantasy bubble and its not healthy.

They are only rumors of course and could be utter horseshit.

If Woodburn was on the piss, or whatever, says plenty about his character. Harsh really, but the level he was at (Liverpool) takes extraordinary sacrifice and discipline I would have thought. Imagine being a young player coming through at a club like that, doing well, working hard, then they sign someone for 60 million in your position!

I've always had the thought that a footballers character is as much important as their game, they are part of the same thing. So when people say that so and so could have been this or that due to their ability, but they loved the sauce and nights out too much, then for me, they weren't good enough, there is no buts or ifs. Might sound a bit harsh.

South Wales and the valleys in particular are full of could have been, should have been Welsh internationals. Football and rugby.

There are still people who claim Mark Pembridge isnt the best player Merthyr has produced If I had a quid for everytime I hear that he wasnt as good as so and so or so and so id be a rich man. Players his age who got no further than Welsh amateur league are apparently better than a man has over 50 Welsh caps - at a time they were not given out like confetti to 3rd tier players like Joe Morell - and played for clubs like Everton and Benfica, just because they stood out a bit more at under 14s . He has over 300 top flight games under his belt ffs

Yeah, definitely. Ability is only about 60% of it. Attitude, discipline and a strong mindset are just as important as vision, a good touch etc. Then there are the players who just didn't seem that bothered. Jason Bowen was one in my opinion. Not because he had a poor attitude, just so laid back and chilled, never phased by anything really. He could play, shock of my ****ing life coming up against him.

He did play 3 times in PL for Southampton on loan and Dave Jones told him to start looking for a house down there as they were going to make it permanent but then all that scandal hapened with Jones himself and it didnt materialise. Then he moved to Reading where it didnt work out and the rest is history. Readings loss was Cardiffs gain. I know im biased cos hes my cousin but hes one of the few players weve had in the last 30 years who would get you off the edge of your seat and do things that were worth the admission. (Not for me I got comps off him )

That said he had a decent proffesional career so obviously had to have some discipline and make some sacrifices. Its the boys who never even played for Merthyr let alone known what its like to be part of the proffesional football set up, when I hear people saying they would have been better than Pembridge if he didnt star chasing girls, start drinking, taking drugs.etc thats the ones that tickle me.

When other lads were starting to do those things at 15/16, Pembridge played a season for Hoover Sports in the Welsh league to toughen him ready for mens football and the professional game.

Yep, Jason could definitely have had longer in the top 2 divisions if he wasnt so laid back. My old man tells him all the time, and Leggy said as much the other day in a fundraiser for him. Spot on. Was in college with Jason doing some shitty sports science course where we would all just **** about. Us and the Swansea lads, they had to come from Swansea to Trowbridge in Cardiff to do the course! Jason Coates was a brainy, he was doing a B-tec🤣

Absolutely.

We have only really heard of him because Wales have generally capped players out of high school. Usually well before they are ready just to get them in the Welsh set up.

Not always a bad idea for a nation with limited resources but it will give the player, the fans or both a slightly inflated opinion of the players ability/potential.

Funnily enough JR at 14 years old, I can’t remember anyone standing out more than Pembridge. Played with and against him and he was always another level in attitude and listened intently to any coaching given to him.

Yes, one or two from the Norton. People who have only ever played Merthyr League.

Julian Barsi is always the one that gets thrown in as being better than Pembridge because they were same age, school,etc He was a nice footballer and still playing for Wales vets now, but theres levels and as Tuerto says to make it is a pro footballer, especially at the top level, its about so much more than just ability.

I have friend who is a Dundee Utd fan and they were desperate to keep him at the end of last season. Suffered a bad injury that curtailed his season. He is contracted until end 2024 but obviously relegation has an impact. Hard to see how he could be signed though.

From what I have seen with Wales he has been a bit hit and miss but has to be a better bet than players like Morrell looking forward if he can get his form and fitness back.
