Studs up and contact with the opposing player.
It may be harsh, but wasn't "nothing".

Correct me if I'm wrong but if the studs are up and there's no control, then isn't that enough under the current rules for a red? Don't think there had to be intent or contact these days?

What about "excessive force" in the tackle? And a "clear and obvious" error from the referee? I've watched it loads of times from different angles in slow motion and I can't even be 100% sure there was any contact.

Studs up, over the top tackle, nowhere near the ball. Red card all day long

Nowhere near the ball? He wins the ball and runs off with it.

Should Nathaniel Clyne have been booked then for simulation?
He was down for a few minutes - of course there was contact.

I"d say the intent was enough for them to make a decesion , its not just about contact, more about protection and stopping others , if contact is made a players career goes south.

Are you 100% sure? There was probably some contact, but nothing I've seen is conclusive.

I am yes. I think Clyne's foot would ground further along if there wasn't. I also think it's irrelevant regarding the red card.
