I don't remember the derby having this aura back in the 90s primarily because we were both rubbish and far fewer people turned up to watch. We played them in 98/99, got promoted and then swapped divisions a couple of times and missed them. We then got the big "investment" from Hammam and suddenly we're cock of the walk, spending big and there was a lot of noise about how we were destined for Hollywood. During the FAW Premier Cup final, we sang "we'll never play you again."
We didn't meet again until 2008 and maybe the wait fermented a desire to give us a bloody nose, and since they won the first meeting back (the league cup tie) they've been hooked on that feeling ever since.
After they leapt over us and we caught them up, we had the chance to wrestle that back but didn't. Now they get the old vibe going and cos we're still something of a shambles we don't match it.Comment
