Went bout 5/6 years ago about an hour from the airport - can't remember the resort but can check if you want - fantastic place fantastic people - love Italy generally but would highly recommend it - had a car for the fortnight we were there so got about the island as well which is worth it

The northern part of the island is not really built towards the type of tourism you get in Spain...resorts and stuff. It's more campsites and what not from what I remember. The fact it's not like costa brava is something it has in its favor though. You should try the agriturismos maybe ....they normally have great food too. I know a couple of good ones if you are interested.

Then it's worth going to the beaches....Cala Gonone , Cala Luna. ......The beaches on the east coast are amazing. In terms of towns , Algero and Bossa are probably worth a visit. They are quite nice.

If I were you I'd do a decent amount of research on the food because I had some memorable meals there.

Definitely one of my favorite holidays.

BTW , it's really hot in summer.

Went pre Covid. Hired a car. No problems driving except some roads are in a very poor condition and round Olbia was a bit hairy. We stayed in agritourismos including this one. Highly recommended. Restaurant is separate from the accomodation, built into the massive granite rocks. Plenty of walking if that's your thing. Spectacular scenery.

Looks rustic, nice and mellow perfect for me but not quite what the wife has planned I think
Those beaches along the east coast, look awesome.

The white beaches and rugged coastline are stunning in places. We stayed in a place called Cannigione. Quite a small town, and quite sleepy in September when we went, but near some lovely beaches. I remember that 9/11 happened when we were there - so it was some time ago!. Since then we've preferred to go to Corsica, which is similarly spectacular, and worth a look as an alternative. Also great for walking.

That could be a thread all on its own - where were you in 9/11 Tenerife for me!!

Certainly a place to chill. It gets booked up for weeks at a time though by some healthy retreat/commune with nature German group. If sitting starkers under some rocks with a spring gushing out/being reborn is their thing so be it. We arrived as they were leaving but a few were still communing. Restaurant was run by the nonnas. More wine than you could sensibly drink included with meals. Lovely food.

oldest daughter went with some uni friends, she said it was ok for a few days relaxing, but got bored after a few days, but her friends enjoyed sitting around the pool and going to the beach, its just not my daughters idea of fun I guess

Yes it looks quite sedate. Beaches look nice, almost Floridian, but I dont think there’s quite as much to do there as Orlando hey? not going across the pond this year, kids need to see other places….! So do I.

Did a walking holiday there. Really enjoyed the scenery and the local food. Natives were very friendly.

Bumped into some ‘interesting’ military types from the 2eREP. Scary fkrs but they got on with doing their thing and didn’t bother anybody.

Not sure about how the town called Buggerru came about. Probably British sailors had something to do with it lol

its a dilemma I have often had with myself ( and others ) but it keeps us entertained and we still love it, trouble is for us, it sets the bar fairly high in entertainment stakes

I struggle with not being entertained, as if im sat around a pool / beach etc, I get bored and then start to annoy the kids for entertainment which then annoys the wife, so its just better to keep me entertained

Same here in not be able to sit still for too long so we normally go somewhere you can "explore" and when bored I take myself off for a walk but also my kids are trained to gang up in the wife which becomes my entertainment 👍👍

Same here, I get bored easily, pools and beaches, that’s an hour or so taken care of but what do you do then? Usually end up arguing where to go so never book anything but 4 trips to Florida in 7 years is ok. Kids are all about water parks so looking at places near good ones so that rules Sardinia out! I’ll save that one for another year…..the wife is now looking as shagaluf in Majorca which I’m sure the kids will love but I’m going to need Valium and beer to survive….
