  • Top six wage budget claim repeated.

Bulut needs to release the handbrake and give fans more dynamic football in what could be a great season for Bluebirds

    Interesting.

As I see Coventry being linked to another 5mil player, would love to know where our transfer spending (or lack thereof) is compared to the rest of the league over the last few years. Even before and after the embargo.

Of course we’ll never know. But when was the last time we were linked with a 5mil player and bought them?

No idea whether this top six wages thing is true but I do know that it only tells a part of the picture. I know this seems obvious but it’s often missing from the conversation.

Top six in wages bottom six in transfers?

Probably not. But I don’t think this top six in wages has given us a top six team in quality.

On the face it, it looks like we should be looking at lists of players due to be out of contract this summer when trying to guess who we'll be signing.

Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

There’s some great talent with contracts expiring

No, not at all, it's how I would prefer us to go.

Seems to me that Brighton midfielder on loan to Northampton last season (Leonard?) would be someone worth taking a serious look at.

Could it also be the case that City, unable to purchase players in recent transfer windows, were happy to pay higher wages to loanees than may have otherwise been the case whilst having to expend less on paying off transfer fees?

Indeed and also paying wages over a period rather than large transfer sums works better for the Profit and Sustainability requirements

In fairness to Abbandonato, he says:

"Bulut will have an enhanced coaching team around him and a budget which wages wise is top six, I’m told."

He doesn't say Bulut did have a budget which was top six wages-wise in 2023/24. The report seems to be suggesting that Bulut will get more backing from Tan this time around.

It's still a daft claim at this stage, though. After all, common sense dictates that whoever is feeding Abbandonato this information doesn't know for sure where this season's wage bill sat in the Championship rankings, let alone where next season's will.

Yes, we couldn't pay a transfer fee so he had to have a workaround and pay more wages, especially if a player bought himself out of his own contract.

Although the transfer fees quoted in press reports are often sketchy, I know that Robert Glatzel was said to have cost something like £5.5 million when he joined City in July 2019. He'd be the last I reckon.

Who do you think did the telling in Abbandonato’s “I’m told”? The same bloke who was telling us we had the sixth biggest budget around this time last year I reckon.

I’ll take a wild guess and say it’s someone whose surname begins with the letter D…

Why don’t you troll Abbandonato on his Twitter feed then it will give you something to get your teeth into , because clearly anyone with a different opinion to you freaks you out. It’s hilarious.

                              Not very bright are you.

You can say its hilarious but hes clearly got under your skin.

Saying he has to have the last word...whilst trying to engage with him again.
