  • How do we stand legally

Not talking about safe standing. How do Welsh clubs stand legally, if the English FA ever wanted to remove us from their league system, and replace us, with say other English teams, or even Scottish teams.
Been trying to google some information on this subject, with little joy, after having a discussion with someone on a recent holiday.

I heard it say, legally , there would be no chance of that and one of the main attacks would be a sort of restraint of trade sort of challenge

We were invited to join it when it was the Football League it only changed its name to the English Football League in 2016/17, so legally we can argue that just because the name English was added it does not exclude existing members of the league.
When the Scotsman William Mcgregor who proposed the league suggested it should be available to all British teams the Scots declined the offer and started their own league. So historically it is THE Football League

No chance unless Wales gets independence. Another reason not to.

Welsh independence would have no bearing on it

There would be an unbelievable amount of legal hurdles for the FA to jump over to force the Welsh clubs out of FA jurisdiction.

There are also a number of responses the clubs could take, e.g. 'loss of earnings'.

It’ll never happen, because the EFL would have to print every sodding piece of paper in Welsh :hehe:

All the Welsh clubs could use the president argument i.e. they have played in the English system for over 100 years. If we still took part in Welsh competitions which offered a route into Europe the EFL might have legitimate grounds but it is over 30 years since that great privilege was taken away.

                            Is that 100% accurate?

What about if we became liquidated

We have sailed close to that one before
