    Alan Hansen seriously ill.
Former Liverpool and Scotland defender Alan Hansen, who was a BBC football pundit for over 20 years, is "seriously ill in hospital".

“Seriously ill” - one of those players who was in his own bubble that seemed to enable him to play at different speed to everyone else, one of my favourite defenders.

I'm sure he played in the 1st football match I ever saw and had a bit of a mare.

Wales 3-0 Scotland - Toshack scored a hat trick.

Terrifying experience didnt go to a game again for a couple of years. 99% of the Jocks were like 21st century Neanderthal man.

Hope he recovers a rare decent pundit.

Hansen was making his debut for what was a pretty strong Scotland team - they showed the whole game during lockdown.

Wales, with a certain John Toshack returning to the team, take on a star-studded Scotland team, captained by Kenny Dalgish at Ninian Park in Cardiff.

Yeah top class and a real gentleman. Odd to think he was always super-chilled but apparenrly had to go to the loo before most games to throw up, as he felt the pressure. Never looked like it to me.

Only 34 caps I think, McBeckenbauer must have been in Scotland’s back four for him to have so few.

                  A really classy defender.
                  Fingers crossed for him.

Nowhere near the class of Hansen, either of them.

Really sad to hear. Was up in Glasgow about 10 years ago and went to a Thai restaurant and randomly ended up sitting on a table with Alan Hansen and his wife on the adjacent table. I pretended not to recognise him so as not to spoil his night, the next minute he started chatting away asking where we were from and who we supported - we were currently without a manager and rumours of Slade coming to City were doing the rounds - i told him and he laughed and said "no F***ing way" - sadly he was wrong !
He chatted all evening about sport in general and came across as a truly nice down to earth person with time just to chat and have a laugh with normal people.
