John White did the League and Cup Double, but his sudden death left his son searching for the man behind the comic-book persona.

John White, City made an offer to Falkirk of £8,000 for him, they turned it down and he went to Spurs for £10,000. A fabulous inside forward, tragically struck by lightning

Standing under a tree holding a golf club during lightning is a bad combination.

Hadn't heard of him before so thanks for posting.

Those Burnley and Spurs kits are quite something in the second photo. Just beautiful.

Saw him play at Ninian Park in the Spurs' Double winning team (March 11th 1961) that lost 3-2 to City.

      What game that was.

I was there that night, best game I’ve ever been to, the crowd were electric and all hands to the pump in the second half. Played on the Saturday night because of the egg in the afternoon.

My dad always spoke about this game with great fondness.
