I said this on a different thread, but people say he just "got in what he could" etc as some sort of defence for him not having the players to play the way he wants to play, that he had to get free signings so his choice was limited. I wonder why he couldn't just get the players with attributes that compliment his playing style, just with a bit less ability as then at least they'd play "his way" and we could upgrade as we go. Seemed a bit counter productive to me to bring in 14 players, many of which don't "suit his style" but he performed unprecedented miracles in stringing a team together..

That " Aussie" stuff is good, I bet he uses it. From what I could see, Bowler didn't over condition his hair either.

That’s a fact, and one of the main reasons why I couldn’t get excited about Bulut staying or going at the end of last season
If he gets rid of the deadwood and replaced the mind numbing boring tactics that we witnessed last year, then happy days
However we have a lot of deadwood to clear out, we also need to stop signing bang average journeymen, who basically just get in the way of some good young players progress.
I don’t know if Conte, King or Colwill jnr will make the grade, but unless they have the opportunity to showcase their talents, we’ll never know.

What I do know is that we have 5-6 players who were all around the squad or starting 11 who we need to move on, if we as a club have any real ambition to progress

We have so far seen what appears to be two very good signings for the new season, we still need two forwards, a box to box midfield player and another winger
Bulut will have to make some changes in his favoured playing style as well

Re: Wintle set to leave then…..

It's the normal Cardiff thing in recent years - Wintle is just one of a lot of City midfielders who are, essentially, the same type of player and he's suffered to a degree because Erol Bulut has thought that he's a bit more adaptable than the rest of them - hence the decision to use him as a number 10 from time to time.

When the transfer window closed last summer, we had Wintle, Ralls, Siopis, Adams and Rhinomta available as senior pros to play in central midfield for us and they are all, essentially, defensive midfield men - the only other central midfielder we had was Ramsey who offers something a bit different, but was struggling for fitness from mid September onwards.

In January, we signed Turnbull, a player whose record at his previous club suggested he was a goalscoring attacking midfieldder, but, having watched him in.a City shirt for six months now, I'm still not sure what type of player he is - certainly, he's a lot closer to a Wintle, Ralls, Siopis type player than I thought he would be.

With Adams gone, Rinomhota unlikely to play much of a part in Championship fixtures and Wintle seemingly on his way out, the chance is there for us to put together a much more balanced midfield. Apparently, we are very interested in signing Alex Robertson of Man City on a permanent basis and I've seen a fee of £1.5 million mentioned to secure his services - I've also seen Robertson described as a box to box midfielder and, apart from Joel Colwill, there is no one in first team contention who adequately fits that description for me.

Therefore, I'd say that the combined fee got for Adams and Wintle (who is probably the one out of the defensive midfielders I listed earlier who we'd get the biggest fee for) if we sell him would pay for Robertson and leave a bit left over for the striker we're trying to sign - we'll need more than the sale of Adams and Wintle to balance the books if we pay the sort of fee talked about for a Robertson type midfielder and bring in one, possibly two, striker(s), another winger and defender that Bulut apparently wants.

Seems to me that probably two players who were regular squad members last season are still going to have to be sold if Bulut is to bring in four players of sufficient quality to make everyone confident that this season will be an improvement on 23/24.

Take that bun out and I reckon he’d have the Derek Showers look.

Good news if true. Him and Ralls are so limited technically We can't afford to have both of them on the field if we want to start playing a more progressive technical game.. They were quite often the worst midfielders technically in the league last season.

they aren't even the worst midfielders technically in our squad

The Wales Online article hints at some sort of falling out between manager and player around the time of our game at Hull when Wintle was left out of the squad completely and Bulut was, seemingly, not happy with the midfield after the Swansea loss (strange, because the whole team didn’t turn up that day), but it didn’t stop Wintle from being, I believe, the biggest regular selection in the team besides Goutas.

I wrote on my blog this morning that Bristol City are, reportedly, looking to sign QPR’s Sinclair Armstrong for a fee of between two and two and a half million pounds. Armstrong has something about him, but the truth is that he has scored less than half of the number of goals for QPR that Kion Etete, who were told by some on here isn’t good enough for us, has scored for City - Etete has also made slightly fewer appearances than Armstrong.

My point is that, unless we’re very good or very lucky (when were we last that!), we’re going to have to pay a tidy sum (especially when the talk is to bring in two strikers) to get in someone who will be good enough to make a real difference for us.

If that is right, then I’d say there could be nothing more sinister about the decision we’ve made about Wintle than us having a buyer lined up for him and we really do need to sell for us to bring in the sort of quality that will be almost guaranteed to improve our scoring rate.
Armstrong to Bristol City has gone through, £2.5 million with a possible additional £1 million in add ons - it’ll be fascinating to learn the sort of striker we’ll be going after, but I don’t think two Tyrese Campbell types will do.

That is true which is scary but we were still the most technically limited midfield in the championship bar Rotherham.

What is almost certainly true is that it was one of the least creative midfields in the division last season.
