RIP RayOriginally posted by JumpersforGoalposts View Post91 isn't a bad "break".
Saw him play Alex Higgins in the B&H Gold Cup final in 1980. Higgins was in great form and battered Ray and we got a few "exhibition" frames from them to fill the rest of the evening.
RIP Ray.
One of the all time greats and a real character.

Re: Ray Reardon
Good amateur, Ray, Fred & joe Davis, + numerous others, used to play the club circuit, playing snooker & billiards.Originally posted by Rock_Flock_of_Five View PostDid your father play professionally, or was he just a very good amateur?
Billiards was the big gambling game in those early days.
Needed good positional play

Re: Ray Reardon
I’m no expert, but I think Ray Reardon’s unflappable temperament was probably his greatest asset as his attitude never seemed to change no matter how much pressure there was. I don’t remember him as a great potter, but in an era where safety dominated, he was up there with the best of them in that department. Seemed a genuine bloke as well.

Re: Ray Reardon
An amazing excerpt from a Ray Reardon interview on Parkinson that I was unaware of.

Re: Ray Reardon
All the good players of the late 60's. 70's had played billiards, except for Higgins - and it showed. There were a lot of 'semi -pros' on the circuit who used to travel down to places like Cardiff and hustle players out of ££££'s. Remember as a schoolkid in Burroughs and Watts snooker rooms in the High ST watching these shady guys clearing up !Originally posted by BLUETIT View PostGood amateur, Ray, Fred & joe Davis, + numerous others, used to play the club circuit, playing snooker & billiards.
