Coogan to play 'Mad Mick'

Steve Coogan will play former Cardiff City manager Mick McCarthy in a new movie.

The film, named 'Saipan', will be centred on the infamous incident between McCarthy, who was then the Republic of Ireland manager, and Manchester United legend Roy Keane at the 2002 World Cup.

While the Irish side was preparing for the tournament on the island of Japan, Keane became embroiled in a public fallout with McCarthy, venting his fury at the training conditions, travel arrangements, diet and the manager himself.

Keane, who will be played by Éanna Hardwicke, then conducted an interview with the Irish press which blew up and sparked a major fallout within the team's camp. Keane launched a verbal volley at McCarthy in front of team-mates, telling him to "stick your World Cup up your a***" during one heated incident.

Roy Keane is the most honest person in football, to his own detriment!

IIRC, Keane told McCarthy to "stick it up your bollocks", which is a whole different anatomical challenge. Hopefully there'll be a sequel about the five centre halfs debacle.

Coogan playing McCarthy couldn't think of anything more terrible.

Maybe Drippy playing Saville in a local production, but apart from that.
