Who will be the main central defensive partnership?

Bulut bought in Goutas last year, and he had a good season, was probably not far behind Ng in the running for player of the season.

then this season we've brought in Chambers, which was mooted as a bit of a coup, then spent big money on Daland and now apparently Fish.

I like the look of Daland, and apparently Fish is pretty highly rated and would have had other options.
We surely aren't throwing that kind of money around for them to sit on the bench? but then who will be?

unless maybe we are going to 3 at the back? but then why didn't we play that was at all in pre season?

I can't understand it at all.

That’s ok, I don’t think anyone at the club does either.

Will probably be the McCarthy special of as many CB's on the pitch at once as he can get - didn't he comment that Daland could also play RB? Don't forget Tsunoda who will be coming back from injury at some point and can also play LB.

I'm all for decent young players which it seems both signings are but it's very odd, especially given the issues at the other end of the pitch. Maybe a knee jerk reaction to shipping 7 goals in 2 games to start the year.

Maybe Fish at right back if NG is sold?

Perhaps he’s realised our current centre backs aren’t up to much and moved quickly to make them backup instead of first team.

That would be quite worrying considering he signed them

Even for Bulut it seems odd. I assumed Fish would be a U21 player until the fed and that he wants to play more football.

No idea, as can’t seem him dropping Goutas. Surely you don’t sign a ball playing CB like Chambers to move to RB.

Weird when we still need a striker, another CM, LB Winger and probably a right back ahead of a CB

The defence is comically bad though and has been for ages. We've needed new defenders just as badly as the other positions mentioned.

I would agree defensively we are poor, I don’t think the CBs have been the issue, as much as the poor protection from midfield and at left back and from the second half of last season right back.
Chambers and another plus Goutas made sense if McGuiness went. Another CB I don’t get, I’d rather a full back of decent midfielder infront of the CBs

It should be Fish and Daland. I think they thought we’d be up there this season, and they’ve quickly seen sense. Top 6 is laughable. We’re miles off it and should be focusing on playing players that we can develop like we did with McGuinness. Chambers has played right back, he might have to play there.

                        Re: Central Defence

I would imagine it's to address injuries right across the back line, and cover at right back and left back, probably not perfect but would provide better cover than we had last season, which cost us more points when McGuiness, NG and Collins were injured.

It's a dodgy time trying to experiment and finalise a back four after two bad losses and a tough run of games.

I hope he's lost faith in Hovarth and is on the lookout for a loan or new keeper before the window shuts, he's cost us at least three goals so far in two games.

Until we see what they can deliver its difficult to predict the line up , over the years we gave seen central defenders with solid reputation struggle in thier first season. Hudson, Prior , Purse, McGuinness, even 2 R Morrison. ..

Would be great to see if the new lads are modern ball carrying defenders .
